I can't speak to the intentionality of that particular change, but there are many cases where code (not necessarily trial) will do something like this temporarily. You should always treat __del__ as slightly non-deterministic unless you have a very tightly controlled test _specifically_ for your __del__ and it includes a gc.collect(). Do startup / cleanup with the 'setUp' and 'tearDown' TestCase methods. Don't depend on garbage collection: this goes for both your application and your test code. Implicitly depending on the garbage collector's behavior will very likely make your program break under the debugger, but not under normal operation (or vice versa).

I'm seeing a weird thing on Twisted 2.2.0. It does not happen with older versions of Twisted (trunk revision 16674, which I had sitting around for some reason). It appears I can't use reference handling to clean up resources within a trial - the output code apparently keeps a reference to the stack trace or something until after it's done. That's too late for me - this resource is essentially a mutex, so if I have more than one TestCase in a single trial run, my tests don't work. Is this change intentional? My test code's inline, along with results on both versions. I'm not quite sure how make proper unit tests of trial itself, so unfortunately you must interpret the results manually. $ cat resource_test.py #!/usr/bin/env """A test of using __del__ for cleaning up resources within trial tests. [Twisted-Python] Mailing List Hiccup

Mailman was out to lunch for a few days last week and over the weekend. Things should be sorted out now, and I don't think any messages _to_ the list got lost, however I do think delivery of those messages to some subscribers got messed up. I don't know of any way to rectify this, so if you want to be sure you didn't miss any messages, you may want to go take a look at the mailman archives (linked from the bottom of this message). [Twisted-Python] Twisted & Qt

I'm using the qtreactor in a GPL-but-unreleased PyQt 4.1 application of my own, and have not found any problems whatsoever with the integration of the Qt Twisted event loops. It's really a pretty slick combination. As an example and a contribution, I offer the following (GPL'd) module: http://deadbeefbabe.org/paste/1996 (syntax-highlighted version), http://foss.eepatents.com/misc/qt-twisted-dialog.py (source). It allows you to construct a non-blocking modal dialog, immediately obtaining a deferred to the user's eventual input. As an aside, I would be interested in people's viewpoints about whether the Qt reactor is suitable for Twisted's MIT-style license, given that it doesn't actually import any Qt code itself. It leaves that step up to the user with the installation of a reactor into the Qt application object. As every Qt user probably knows, the Qt library itself is dual-licensed under either the GPL or Trolltech's proprietary license. Best regards, Ed
