[Twisted-Python] Application Start Up and Tear Down

Hi, so far I've been using only one Factory in my application. So, all the intialization and deinitialization code was in startFactory() / stopFactory(). Now I have to add another protocol with another factory. Is there a similar pair of methods for the application (server) where I can initialize resources (db pool, for example) upon startup and free them upon shutdown? -- Best regards, Pavel Bastov

So, I've been making great strides with my plugin system, using twisted's plugin support, but there's just one small issue I'm having that I can't seem to figure out. This is basically a configuration detail that my users will have to take care of, but I'd like to be able to catch this error and provide a nicer message, or at least not have my logfile filled up with stack traces. The problem is that putting a try/catch around getPlugins doesn't work, or doesn't appear to. I've looked at the code in getPlugins, and I can't figure out why the exception isn't being caught. Since I'm not actually using the reactor, I would assume there's no deferred trickery that needs to be done, so I'm at a bit of a loss. Any help in this matter would be appreciated... -phil

[Twisted-Python] producer / consumer question

Hi, I have yet another question... a producer has to learn about it's consumer somehow, otherwise it would not know where to write it's data to. But the proposed interface is exactly vice versa: the IConsumer interface has a registerProducer() method. Now, that would be fine, if that did all the setup between a producer and a consumer. But AFACIS in the twisted code, registerProducer() does not link itself with the producer. Instead, the producers I've inspected (i.e. FileSender) require an explicit initialization with a given consumer. Why is that? What's the best way to associate a producer with a consumer? Is something like the following okay: def associateProducerConsumer(prod, cons): prod.consumer = cons cons.registerProducer(prod, ISeekableProducer.providedBy(prod)) Regards Markus

Is anyone working on stuff like this using Twisted though? For a seasoned Twisted programmer, this should be pretty simple... I've done most of the features of both in other apps based on twisted , which seems to support both feature sets really really well. Just wondering/hoping that someone here is planning on releasing some standalone stuff that people can download and run on their servers ( ssh for security , chatting for aim/icq/jabber not throttling any one ip - which is happening right now )
