bitwise operations for bytes and bytearray

Hi! I'm interested in adding the functionality to do something like: >>> b'a' ^ b'b' b'\x03' Instead of the good ol' TypeError. I think both bytes and bytearray should support all the bitwise operations. I've never hacked on cpython before. I'm starting by just trying to add xor to bytearray. I have a ByteArray_Xor function that I think should do this here https://github.com/cowlicks/cpython/commit/d6dddb11cdb33032b39dcb9dfdaa7b10… But I'm not sure how to hook this in to the rest of cypython. I tried adding it where bytearray_as_sequence is declared in this bytearrayobject.c file. But that gave me compiler warnings and broke things. So now that I have this ByteArray_Xor function, how do I make it be bytearray.__xor___? Thanks! Blake

Branches in which to fix the SSL tests

Currently some SSL tests in the test suite are broken by a recent certificate change at https://svn.python.org/; see <https://bugs.python.org/issue25940> for the bug report. The tests are broken when the test suite is run with the “-unetwork” option enabled, and most of the buildbots appear to be affected. (In 3.6 the tests have temporarily been disabled as a workaround.) I have a simple patch that subsitutes the old root certificate for the new which I would like to commit, but I’m not sure which branches to apply it to, or even which branches are open to normal maintainence and bug fixes. According to Larry <https://mail.python.org/pipermail/python-dev/2015-December/142566.html>, 3.4.4 was the last bug fix release for 3.4, so I assumed the 3.4 branch should now be in security-fixes-only mode. However this branch still seems to get a lot of non-security action, for example the most recent bunch of changes were some work on the provisional “pathlib” module. So firstly I would like some clarification on the status of 3.4 and what its future is. Secondly, I would normally say a fix for the test suite isn’t really appropriate for the older security branches. But in the bug report, Koobs specifically requested this be fixed in 3.4 and possibly earlier branches as well. What do others think about this?

I have develop few years ago a small net bit that could help , I was giving my self into it but unpleasant to my life , that they want java I never stood from them . It was develop to run that bit in python strictly but a combination with servers and I net stream sockets I could fix the problem . Nice to meet with you I consider your explanation as mentor you know the industry I built the bot to work with the Alice project and the dictionary recipients of sparkov , it it function right know but feds and Police try to hold the main program , when I find out I try to get online with the webmaster and he could not pass the permit he neglected so fast , that for me was conducting right . PEP 9 - plaintext PEP format - is officially deprecated

I don't think this will be at all controversial. Brett suggested, and there was no disagreement from the PEP editors, that plain text PEPs be deprecated. reStructuredText is clearly a better format, and all recent PEP submissions have been in reST for a while now anyway. I am therefore withdrawing[*] PEP 9 and have made other appropriate changes to make it clear that only PEP 12 format is acceptable going forward. The PEP editors will not be converting the legacy PEPs to reST, nor will we currently be renaming the relevant PEP source files to end with ".rst" since there's too much tooling that would have to change to do so. zipimport.c broken with implicit namespace packages

BRIEF INTRODUCTION: I've been using python since the early 1.X releases. Mostly for application development. On occasion I've contributed bits to the core: > grep Romberg Misc/ACKS Mike Romberg I've recently ported a large application to python3 (it started life as using 1.1 so it has been a long road for this codebase). The one big killer feature of python3 I'm attempting to use is implicit namespace packages. But they are broken with the zipimport.c module. It seems that zipimport.c never worked with these as it is comparing paths in the form 'a.b.c' to paths in the form 'a/b/c'. I created a patch that fixes this and makes zipimport work exactly the same as a standard filesystem import. I was getting my patch ready to submit when I found that this problem has already been reported: https://bugs.python.org/issue17633 Is there anything I can do to help fix this issue? I could polish up my patch create test cases and submit them. But it looks like the above patch does the same thing and is in "the process". But it has been "in the process" for three years. PEP 257 and __init__

Hola! (I was doubting in sending this mail to this list or to the normal one, but as it affects a "style recommendation" we propose for the whole community, I finally sent it here) I was reading PEP 257 and it says that all public methods from a class (including __init__) should have a docstring. Why __init__? It's behaviour is well defined (inits the instance), and the initialization parameters should be described in the class' docstring itself, right? Or I am missing something? Should we remove "__init__" (the class method, *not* the package file) as to require docstrings in the PEP? Thanks! -- .
