Adding PEP 515's '_' formatting

PEP 515 adds underscores to numeric literals. As part of that, it adds optional underscores to numeric formatters (similar to PEP 378 for ','). See https://www.python.org/dev/peps/pep-0515/#further-changes I had assigned myself http://bugs.python.org/issue27080 to implement this. Unfortunately, I'm not going to have time to implement this before 3.6 Beta 1. This isn't a hugely complex project, and it doesn't require knowledge of python internals. So someone with decent C skills should be able to accomplish it in less than a day. I'm hoping someone can pick it up. I can offer some pointers if needed. Eric.

Patches to distutils for 3.6

Hi All, There are a couple of related patches that were submitted to distutils a few months ago that I think would be great to have in before the feature freeze in 3.6b1 A bug fix in CCompiler.has_function http://bugs.python.org/issue25544 Adding a has_flag method to CCompiler http://bugs.python.org/issue26689 useful to check if a compiler has certain flags available (such as -std=c++11) Is there any chance of having this merged before the release? review request: anti-registration of ABCs

I have unsuccessfully tried to ping the issue http://bugs.python.org/ issue25958 on "anti-registration" of implicit ABCs by setting attributes to None. Guido said: "But with the indicated fixes, I think this good to go (for Python 3.6)" I have manually "rebased" the previous patch by Andrew Barnert taking into account part of the work that has been done on Reversible and fixing final minor comments. I would like this to land in time for 3.6, could someone please review the latest patch and check that everything is OK? -- Ivan

Issues in Python TLS

Hello, We are experimenting with a tool for inspecting how well languages and libraries support server certificate verification when establishing TLS connections. We are getting rather confusing results in our first major shootout of bundled CPython 2 and 3 versions in major, still supported OS distributions. We would love to get any insight into the test stubs and results. Maybe we are doing something horribly wrong? Python 2 and 3 with Requests Our stub code: https://github.com/ouspg/trytls/blob/v0.2.1/stubs/python-requests/run.py <https://github.com/ouspg/trytls/blob/v0.2.1/stubs/python-requests/run.py> This is good news. All major distributions successfully check the TLS certificates in all corner cases tested by the TryTLS. It was good news that most distros also support SNI with this combination, the only exceptions being CentOS 6.8, Ubuntu 12.04.5 and Ubuntu 14.04. Subprocess destructor now logs a ResourceWarning

Hi, FYI I made a tiny enhancement in the subprocess module in Python 3.6: Popen destructor now logs a ResourceWarning if the child process is still running when the destructor is called. Keeping a child process in background is bad because it is likely to create zombi process, because Python will no more read its exit status. Martin Panter asked to add a new "detach() method" to subprocess.Popen if you would like to "transfer the ownership" of the child process (pid) to a different object. I'm not sure that it is needed in practice (Popen is responsible to handle different resources, not only the pid, maybe I didn't look closely to the issue), but it may be required for specific code to avoid the new ResourceWarning. Changing the licence of statistics.py

I'm the author of statistics.py, and for historical reasons it was originally included in the standard library under the Apache licence. I now wish to change that and have it licenced under Python's standard licence. Is there anything I need to do other than just remove the Apache licence boilerplate from the file? (Yes, I've signed the contributor form.) -- Steve

I have a tiny patch for issue 27573, "code.interact() should print an exit message". http://bugs.python.org/issue27573 Its a one-line change to code.py, plus a dozen or so lines changed in test_code.py. If its not controversial, I think it would be nice to get it into 3.6. Thanks, -- Steve

The next and final alpha snapshot planned for the 3.6 release cycle is coming up soon. Keep in mind that the feature development phase of the 3.6 release cycle is nearing an end. The next major milestone is a big one: the first beta shapshot, 3.6.0b1, scheduled for Monday, 09-12, a little over four weeks from now. That will mark the end of the unrestricted feature development phase and the start of the bugfix/stabilization/testing phase. All feature code for 3.6.0 should be checked in by b1. During the beta phase, the emphasis will be on fixes for new features, fixes for all categories of bugs and regressions, and documentation fixes/updates. After b1, new features should be targeted for 3.7; more details will be forthcoming by b1. As a reminder, alpha releases are intended to make it easier for the wider community to test the current state of new features and bug fixes for an upcoming Python release as a whole and for us to test the release process. During the alpha phase, features may be added, modified, or deleted up until the start of the beta phase. Alpha users beware!
