InSTALL questions...

Barry, I'm upgrading to 2.0.5, and a couple of thoughts... In the INSTALL file: You must have the Python interpreter installed somewhere on your system. Currently Python 1.5.2 or later is required (Python 2.0 should work fine). For information about obtaining Python source code, RPM packages, or pre-compiled binaries please see: Do you want to now recommend Python 2.0 over 1.5.2? Or say something more definitive than "should work fine"? Isn't 2.0 the recommended version now? There's a similar comment in README The UPGRADING file stops at 2.0.2. It probably makes sense to add a "if you're upgrading from any 2.0 release...." Looks good so far...

I don't think it should be a problem to add it as a contrib to mailman - I have also written such a script and think it would be most useful if something was included. There is a better way of doing it though. Rather just drop a dedicated script in the /etc/logrotate.d directory called mailman. These scripts are automagically executed when it is time to do logrotation. Explanation required after upgrade to 2.0.5

I have just upgraded mailman from 1.1 to 2.0.5 - everything went smoothly, but I have some minor issues though. 1) When the news gate service tries to connect to a down NNTP server, ugly messages are logged in the error log. Maybe the fact should rather just be logged in the fromusenet log? empty digests

Hi, Last night I had to change all subscribers to one of my lists to a digest version. I used bin/withlist -l in interactive mode and gave the following python commands: all = m.GetMembers() for member in all: m.SetUserDigest(member, 1, force=1) This took a really long time (1635 regular subscribers) and after about 20 minutes I decided to press Ctrl-C cause I was afraid it hung somewhow... this means I wasn't able to do a m.Save() but after checking the number of subscriber was reduced to about 60 so appearantly it did work out... After that I decided to rerun the commands again and this time I waited untill it was finished and did a m.Save() Anyway my point is that now I'm getting some complaints from members about receiving empty digests (it only says the number of posts which should be in there) I'm not sure yet what they are missing but I was wondering if I could have messed things about by interrupting the process w/o a m.Save()? When I look up the subscription options for one of the members who complained I don't see anything weird in there... -- Regards, Ricardo

Hi all, I've uploaded the Mailman 2.0.5 patch and tarball to SourceForge. Please check out http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=103 I've tested this on my system and on {python,zope}.org and it seems to work well. Still, I would love to get some feedback on this specific patch before making a wider announcement (won't it be great when I have a unit test suite? :). Please give it a shot and let me know. Running Solaris 8 on Intel platform with i810 chipset

Hello to All, Is there a XServer to have Solaris 8 Intel platform edition running properly with the Intel 82810 chipset? As much as know, XFree86 release 4.0.3 only supports the i810 chipset for the Linux operating system. Is there a technical reason, why this hardware is not supported for the Solaris Intel platform? Also, is there any chance that the XServer for i810 will be available for Solaris in the near future? Thank you for your attention and help.
