If i run configure with hostname lists.kommunikationssystem.de it seems not to be configured right. So i changed in defaults.py and / or mm_cfg.py the values. Most is ok, but on subscribing the reply-Adress (in the header) of the mail asking for confirmation is listname(a)kommunikationssystem.de and not listname(a)lists.kommunikationssystem.de ... You can test this by turning off qrunner (i.e. bin/mailmanctl stop), and running the queues one-by-one until you see the message show up in the qfiles/out directory. See bin/qrunner for how to do this. Once the message is in qfiles/out, do a bin/dumpdb on the .pck file. Upgraded a previously 2.0.11 server with several lists. Everything seems to be operating ok mailwise except I'm receiving a daily email from checkdbs on two of the lists directing me to their admindb pages for pending requests. When I visit those urls, there are no pending requests. The lists' request.db's appear to be binary-identical to those of the other mailing lists that don't have any pending requests (that is, empty). You know, the bug where mailman thinks that there's something to do in admindb, but there's really not, is slowly driving me and my listadmins mad... I'm getting about 7 mail messages a day now informing me that I still need to do something, when I know damn well I don't...

OSX installation problem - no "mailman" user

I sent this question to the mailman-users list and got no response, so I thought maybe I should try here. I don't know if this is a problem because I'm a novice at these UNIX installations, or if there's something wrong with the Darwin installer: I'm trying to install Mailman on Mac OS X, and it's not working for me. For some reason, it keeps saying "no mailman user found" when I try to run configure... I've tried setting up said user in the System Preferences and in NetInfo. The user exists in the System Preferences, has a home directory, etc... but configure doesn't work. Do you have any ideas? Maybe I didn't enter some necessary things in NetInfo, or maybe something's not setgid'd right, or I don't know what. Thanks, Greg Westin westin(a)fas.harvard.edu

mailman checks for the installation directories during configury. IMO this wrongly assumes, that - the build machine is the target machine - the directories already exist during configuration - you don't use a temporary installation directory 2.1b2 works ok. Found this while making experimental Debian packages. suggestion for configure

Add a --with-fqdn and --with-url or equivalent. The current cvs snapshot can't guess my fqdn on my production box, and it's used now to build a web of interconnected addresses, as well as populate the VIRTUAL_HOSTS table, so I had to do a bunch of deleting and repairing in mm_cfg. I can, if I *remember*, which I've already forgotten once, fix it when I build by setting FQDN and URL environment variables, so that configure picks those up by default, but I have a habit of just looking at config.status to see how I ran configure the last time. Having an explicit configure switch would be nice.
