Just like last year, Mailman's going to be participating as a sub-organization under the Python Software Foundation. Unfortunately, this means that our name doesn't show up directly on the org list -- you'll need to click through from python to find us. I'm going to set up some tags so the sub-orgs will be more visible to those searching that list, but it probably won't get done 'till I'm finished work for the day. It's participating with Python as its parent organization. Check the gsoc13 page for Python. GSOC 2013 : Web Posting Interface

Hello to all the members of the community. My name is Peter Markou and I'm currently running the last year of my university course. I'm deeply interested in implementing the "Web Posting Interface". Since I've maintained and integrated phpBB forum in a european project that I participated about 8 months ago(MUTW - Multinational Undergraduate Team Work http://mutw.praxisnetwork.eu/ ) I think I will be able to offer some additional features to make it a replacement for phpBB. Thanks in advance for your time and looking forward to discuss any further details.

Hard to say - judging by how they're used in the examples, both look good. But there are some more things you might want to consider before choosing one: Authentication methods Which auth methods are provided out of the box by the frameworks? And which one(s) would you like to support (OAuth(2), BasicAuth over SSL, ...)? I guess choosing and implementing authentication could become one of the major sub-tasks of that project. Support for Django 1.5 and Python3: At some point in the not so fare future mailman and postorius will be ported to Python3. Django 1.5 already supports Python3, so it would be a bonus point if the rest framework supports it, too (or if their developers are making efforts to do so...). Another idea (not sure if it's a good one): Maybe also take a closer look at Django's class-based views. They are capable of routing requests to the same URI to different dispatch methods, depending on the HTTP method. So that might be also be an interesting option. Cheers Florian

IIRC, Mark was using Cygwin at one point. The thing about Windows is that we're using several *nix-isms in process management and possibly in other places. I have no burning desire to try to make these Windows compatible. -Barry

Hi everyone, the list of organizations accepted for GSoC this year has been announced, but apparently google-melange.com suffers from a little "end of countdown" stress and only displays a small number of them. So a quick announcement for those of you currently watching that page: Like last year and the year before, Mailman will participate in GSoC under the umbrella of the Python Software Foundation! Yay...! (Of course it would have been even better had Mailman been accepted as a separate organization, but unfortunately that's not the case. Maybe next year!) So let's have another great three to four months of learning and coding and doing beautiful things! Cheers Florian

Although we would like for MM3 to run on Python 3, I don't think that all of our dependency libraries are ready for that yet. On the build side, we have few to no Windows experts. I also have my doubts about "superb" in principle: Microsoft honors the POSIX functions and RFC protocols that Mailman depends on more in the breach than the observance. This could be very painful.... On the user side, are there really people out there knocking down doors to install Mailman on Windows?
