"Viable," you'd have to ask Carol @ GSoC about that. Since Money is involved (even though a small amount for the orgs), I suspect the answer is "formally, you must choose one" (and get advice as you please during the summer). My *advice* is that I think that you're likely to find that Mailman and Systers will have different ideas about what is important. I think you are best off doing your project with one point of view rather than trying to balance them.

Hi again community, As I was checking https://bugs.launchpad.net/mailman/ to give it a shot and fix any bug, I noticed this bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/mailman/+bug/1104505 tagged with "wishlist". The exact bug description is : "There should be an interface for posting to a list from the Web UI". After about 2 months Terri made this wishlist one of the proposed projects for GSoC. This got me thinking and drew the conclusion that Mailman is considering a lot the users feedback/suggestions. So since Mailman is looking for students who are able to contribute useful features, I'm going to have a look at all bugs/wishlists and collect the ones that are related to "Web Posting Interface" to a certain extent (a good starting point to get a clue about what features the users find useful). After all, in my opinion, these suggestions should guide us in refining the project to function as users expect to (features suggested by developers should also have an impact). Looking forward to hear any suggestion in order to include them in my application proposal as described here: http://wiki.list.org/display/DEV/Google+Summer+of+Code+2013 in the "Web Posting Interface" project description. The web interface should continue to work for browsers that don't support CSS, JavaScript, AJAX, images, Flash, SVG or any of the other stuff that was added to HTML. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Progressive_enhancement -- bye, pabs

This particular project (being a Postorius one) affects both Terri and me, and both of us have been mentoring for Systers as well as Mailman. So either way this should be especially easy. But as you said, Terri is probably in the best position to make a suggestion regarding which org's slot to use. As someone from Systers, we would probably accept her under the Systers umbrella (though if we get a lot of great applicants and are feeling squeezed, we might come to you to ask you to use one of your slots for her, but Terri is the one to broker that), but we'd want to make sure there was someone on the mailman side who could help her get unstuck at various points. We did that last year and it worked well. It is certainly a priority in Postorius, because it's one of the last missing features (and we're about to add a very simple version of it in order to be able to release a new beta soon). The core's architecture allows very fine-grained changes to a user's settings, like (but not limited to) the ones described on our ideas page. Because of that complexity, one very important aspect of this project is to come up with interface ideas that will not leave people confused (or how Terri described it: the "user interface nightmare"). So I think it could make for a very interesting summer project, both on the architectural as well as on the coding side. Overall I'd say it's probably one of the more important project ideas, although that definitely depends on who you ask. ;-) Also, it's a bit difficult to categorize the project ideas in "important" and "less important" ones.
