Hi. There's a fairly simple problem here that needs to be addressed. And it's mostly a documentation/install problem. I'm hoping we can get this resolved before the next release. PROBLEM: Mailman comes out of the box ready to backscatter spam people. Yes, it's easy enough to fix. But because it comes stock this way, and is documented to install this way, most people install it to do this. Those of us who work in abuse departments are tired of hearing "well that's how Mailman works". We also object to having to teach people how to fix their mailman installations because it's not documented in the current manual. This is *exactly* like Sendmail 14 years ago. We didn't accept it then, and Sendmail fixed the problem. RESOLUTION: Mailman default installation should not backscatter in a default configuration. 1. Don't create backscatter aliases for subscribe/unsubscribe/etc by default. Nearly everyone uses web based signup. 2. Discard or hold messages from non-subscribers by default. I would think that it would be perfectly reasonable to have documentation on how to enable the 1980s-style -request / -subscribe etc aliases. However this documentation should have a note that this is against the AUP of nearly every network provider, and enabling it will likely cause them to get listed in various blacklists as a backscatter source. FYI: I know that this goes against the instincts of many old-time mailing list advocates here. But after dealing with a 10k/hour backscatter DoS my tolerance for this problem is understandably limited. Yes, it was a sweet day back in the 1980s. I was running a mailing list server and several UUCP gateways at the time, so I remember them well. Umbrella Settings

Hi Team I just want to know whether the umbrella list option is enabled in Maiman 3 or not. Bounce Processing in Mailman 3

Hi Team I have observed few options those are present in Mailman 2 are not found in Mailman 3 some of them are mentioned below. If the mentioned options are already enabled please let me know where can I access them. 1.We have Bounce Processing as separate option in Mailman 2 but in Mailman 3 I haven't seen that of configuration. Options like "Bounce Score Threshold", disabling the member based on the bounce score etc.., Is this feature is enabled or still under development. If it is enabled please guide where can I access this. 2. Send goodbye message to members when they are unsubscribed?. This option also I did not found in Mailman 3. 3.Emergency moderation of all list traffic. (When this option is enabled, all list traffic is emergency moderated, i.e. held for moderation. Turn this option on when your list is experiencing a flamewar and you want a cooling off period.) I don't know what this option exactly does but I did not found it in Mailman 3. If this is intentionally ignored that is fine. 4.Discard held messages older than this number of days. Use 0 for no automatic discarding. 5.Ceiling on acceptable number of recipients for a posting. 6.Is the list moderator's approval required for unsubscription requests? 7.Should messages from non-members, which are automatically discarded, be forwarded to the list moderator? I think the above option should be enabled, if it is not enabled in Mailman 3. Enabling this option let moderator or owner know what that non-member has posted. If the above mentioned features are already enabled please let me know where can I found. Can we disable archiving by default

Hi Team I want to disable some mailing lists archives by default and want to enable after a period of time. I don't want any archives to enabled from day-1 to a list but may be later. Time zone setting and difference in time

Hi Team I am observing that there is a time difference in my postorius. On info page the list metrics option showing time difference of 5 hours. I changed the time zone from UTC to asia/Kolkata even though I am facing the same issue. And regarding hold date in the held message.html template under the setting {{ msg_hold.date|date:DATETIME_FORMAT}} I have removed the option date:DATETIME_FORMAT and I am able to print the time and date but not in correct format. But also with difference in the time. Setting asia/Kolkata is the only option for changing TZ or is there any other option..? Hold Date is not displaying in Held messages tab

Unable to see the content in attachment of archives

Hi Team We are unable to see the content of the downloaded attachment (say pdf ) from hyperkitty archiver. On opening a pdf it is displaying like it was sent like email attachment and was not correctly decoded. Thanks to Community and Follow Up after GSoC

Hello Team, Its been long since the result of GSoC came. I thank the whole GNU Mailman community, my mentors `Abhilash` and `Stephen` and especially `Mark` ( for being patient enough to respond to this newbie). Much was learned in this community during the whole GSoC phase. I admit things did not go full well according to plan ( tests and endpoints are remaining to write mostly ) and I will state the reason for this. - My right shoulder got dislocated in an accident in college, this hampered my work as I was in the hospital, my friend completed the final evaluations as well as informed `Abhilash`. After I got discharged my right arm was still unusable and I was just figuring out how to survive in campus with one arm ( passing tests, classes etc), so I was inactive in the community even after the GSoC results were released. Yesterday the strapping on my arm is removed and now I am able to have some degree of control ( I can move my elbow fine but not the whole arm ) and hence am writing this. - I will get back to work in a month and finish the rest, meanwhile, I will stay in touch with the team.
