case sensitive user names in email addresses

i've got a mailman site that has a list with a subscriber whose email address is case sensitive for the username part. mailman is downcasing the address, and it makes mail to the user bounce user unknown. I'm aware that the mail system that is bouncing this address as user unknown is pretty darn unusual, but the list admin finds this unacceptable. Does anyone know if case sensitive user names are rfc complient addresses? scott

CVS error + latest mailman-cmdhandler.patch

Hiyas, There's an error in anon cvs: cvs server: cannot open /projects/cvsroot/mailman/templates/help.txt,v: Permission denied cvs server: nothing known about mailman/templates/help.txt BTW here's my latest patch against the current MailCommandHandler.py and MailList.py and it also avaiable via www (www.kva.hu/~mailman/patches/required/mailman-cmdhandler.patch). digest/non digest subscribers

some folks using mailman that were recent majordomo users were subscribers to both the digest and the regular list traffice, and miss that option when using mailman. though i personally don't understand why someone would want this option, especially when the equivalent of the digest is available from the web archives, it might be a nice thing to make things smoother for former majordomo users. thoughts? scott

Well, I just updated HTMLFormatter a little while ago, and haven't tried it out yet. I don't understand you problem with it yet, though. As for the list->lst problem, I did notice that last week, but I hadn't gotten around to making the change in my checked out version and checking it in, I'd only made the fix in a running version. Note that the CVS tree is not garunteed to be in a state that will run whatsoever, though we do try to keep it that way. We only do lots of testing when it comes time for an actual release. (And even then we don't always catch everything). John

Hello, I recently got the latest cvs-release. After installing it I got the following errors: 1) In HTMLFormatter.py (line 160) a call to a none existsing attribute of MailList correction: changed the if to if self.subscribe_policy < 2 : I don't know if the "< 2" is completely correct, but the real correction probably goes in that direction. 2) In Cgi/admin.py on line 766 there is an error, that line says list.digest_members.remove(user) The correction is: lst.digest_members.remove(user) I haven't put these corrections into the cvs version (I have no idea how to do that, and I do not want to interfere with the way you work), so I only corrected it in my running version. I hope these little errors/correction have helped... I do wonder why nobody hasn't seen these errors before... The error in admin.py was also in 1.04b so at least some of you should have noticed it... Doesn't anyone use the admin pages to set subscriber options? Bavo De Ridder

Ah, life on the bleeding edge. The cvs tree now has a new HTMLFormatter.py that should fix the problem. We've hit a bug!!!

Hello, I just installed the cvs version of mailman. I backup my old lists (saving the contents of the lists subdirtree) and after installing the new version (cvs), I copied the list-backups to their right place(s). I did the same with the lock files.
