From the installed crontab for user mailman, when it runs gate_news: ------ Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/local/mailman/cron/gate_news", line 52, in ? import mimelib.Errors ImportError: No module named mimelib.Errors ------ I thought mimelib was no longer needed? Also, I followed the directions and installed email 0.93 in ./misc , but it shows 0.92 installed. Anyone know what might be causing that? Hi, it seems that accessing via Web the main /mailman/listinfo page I get the error below, but if I access directly one (and only this, it seems) list via /mailman/listinfo/listname all works fine :-) I can perform all the administrative operations! :-) I don't know why only for this list, anyway... Weird things happen after upgrade to 2.1a3+ CVS :-(

Hi, just after upgrading to 2.1a3+ (latest CVS) it seems that nothing is working any more. Python 2.0.1, email-0.93. Here is an error message from gate_news and accessing to the Web U/I works only for one list! I'll send the error log in another message. Why make update said "nothing to do"? Are the config.pck files changed after the modifications to the moderation process? Do I have to convert them in some way? I seemed to have to *remove* that patch after updating to latest CVS today, else I got "already locked" errors. My biggest challenge is to get them to stop re-inventing the wheel and instead look to turning Drupal into glue which can be used to bind any number of external systems together (eg search engine, bug tracking ticketing, list archives, jabber chat, IRC, polling/survey system, etc) along with a set of base Drupal features. Happily the project is young and flexible enough I think its still possible. PHP-Nute et al are far too entrenched. So far I've gotten them off MySQL only and onto PEAR and thus PostgresQL. I'm currently writing a unified namespace patch with an eye to a) Wikifying the entire thing (all nodes are WikiItems), and b) having the namespace transparently extensible to non-Drupal items (its just a set of string mapping functions between names and URLs), and c) having the namespace transparent inter-Drupal in exactly the same way InterWiki names work (except that I'll likely add an XML/RPC post-change/notify layer). Happily, implementing a unified namespace does a lot to fix the worst navigation problems. After that comes the rest of the TODO list, with the Wikifying project heading the list (which is just messy in the details). Somewhere down the pipe is integrating Mailman. Currently Drupal will auth against its own local DB, another other Drupal it can reach via XML/RPC, or against a JabberID. Auth against LDAP and against Delphi are just about to hit CVS along with an interesting auth abstraction layer. If it was a LDAP authenticated user, the generated webpage told them that the password for the specific user was unavailable (due to being stored in LDAP). The user got a similar reply if the request was via email. But users were still able to change options like "nomail", "digest", etc by using their LDAP attributes for authentication/storage. However this involved severe hacking of the Mailman modules (more than I liked) and from what I've read so far Mailman 2.1 won't need this hacking - I'm still waiting for resources to be assigned so I can start working on an LDAP authenticator for 2.1 (next day or two hopefully). The source for the 2.0.2 hack is available, but I want to finish cleaning it up before I give it to people (again I'm waiting for resources). :( Hope that gives an insight into what I'ld be looking for. One of these would be the possibilty of authenticating against one or more data sources - eg LDAP for local users and a Python pickle or marshal for remote users. For example all details for all the users in a university (in my case) would already be in a directory server, but remote users (members of lists hosted by the university for example) would be stored seperately. Of course we could make authentication a "per-list" setting. This is rapidly getting into Mailman v3 territory so i'll stop here. Regards Donal Hunt --__--__--

A quick question... In converting another list over from Lyris, I noticed that Lyris has a way of setting the name of the list so that it appears in the From: address for each message that comes from the list. Example: From: "Mailman Developer's List"<mailman-developers(a)python.org> Is there a way to do this now in 2.06? 2.1x? Or would it just need a quick hack of CookHeaders.py? Bob

Hello all, Great job you guys!! Ever since I test use it, I love it, and been using it ever since. I was just wondering if you guru can add one more action button to the menu of "Posting Held for Approval"? This selection button is called "Ban/Spammers" The reason of doing is because I've been setting up my postmaster email to go through mailman. It traps most of the email in there for me to decide whether to defer, approve, reject, or discard it later whenever I have time to skim through the subject line. I don't want to choose reject because they (evil spammers) will know someone actually read it which server their purpose of spamming already. So most of the time, I choose discard but that does not stop mailman from recieving more mail from the same user@host address. So I thought it would be nice if mailman has a "ban" button where it add the user@host to the ban list so that next time when it recieves it again, it just automatically delete it for me. Perhaps the implementation of this should keep the ban list in a file??? so that in the far future, someone will write an interface for sendmail to read off it as part of its secondary blacklist besides the international one. Once every month, I will manually review this file to see which @host appears the most so that I can then manually decide whether or not to completely add it to the deny list in sendmail. What do you guys think about this? Thanx. Steve
