Truth be, I am *so* unimpressed with Apple on their handling of this. May be it is just a European support issue but they have not one single clue about how it runs or what happens when it does not - except to sell you their no guaranty paid for support! I really get sick of Apple when they make a hullabaloo about " woo-woo " Open Source software and then ditch their clients with no support for it afterwards. Zilch in the kbase last time I looked. You know, for a few dollars more, they could have made this a truly Apple experience, the trouble seems to be what with the NeXT guys on one side and the marketing accountants on the other there is little Apple left! [ ... and all I am talking about is making pretty and easily customisable ]. I was / am fighting with a Server based version. Good luck, John

Upgrade from 2.0 to 2.1.5 breaks on pending_subscriptions.db

Has anyone else come across this and if so what's the solution? I'm running an upgrade of our mailman install in a test environment and it's breaking with the following error. I'm running on Solaris 8 with Python 2.3.4. Block attachments before testing for non-member

Many things show up as "mail from non-member" which contain nothing but a forbidden attachment. Can we run through the content filter BEFORE testing for membership so that this cr*p just gets discarded? Thanks, </edg>

All AOL members not receiving emails

Hello, Apologies if this has been answered elsewhere... I searched the archives and didn't find it. Did AOL make some major change affecting Mailman a couple weeks ago? I have a Mailman 2.1.5 list with 46 AOL members, all of whom appear to have stopped receiving list messages. Anyone know anything about this? We haven't gotten any bounces, but have noticed the pattern of AOL subscribers asking us why we cut them off... so we're checking all AOL subscribers on the list and so far not one is receiving. (It's possible that we'll get a bunch of confirmations later, but so far nothing...) Is there some setting we need to tweak? Have been running for years and no problems other than the usual AOL spam controls getting tweaked without the AOL subscriber's knowledge... but before it was always on a case-by-case basis and we got bounces back... Using python format strings

Hi! I want to customize our mailman installation (2.1.5) and need to edit the languange templates for that. I've read the docu how to use the python format strings but especialy the %(host_name)s string does not work in every template. I want to use %(host_name)s in the verify.txt template, but the format string is not translated into the hostname. On the other site %(host_name)s works fine for example in subscribeack.txt. Can't I use evry python format string in evry template? Is this problem known or is it a bug? Or am I doing something wrong? Also I saw the format string %(hostname)s in some templates, for example in subauth.txt (English or German). I tryed this also with verify.txt but it doesn't work too. Whats the different between both python format strings and are both correct? Witch format string shall I use? betweenn %(hostname)s and %(host_name)s? Can someone help me out of this format string confusion? Spam help

I am using Mailman as an announce-only list, where I post, and everyone receives. Is there a way to either reject ALL other traffic on the list besides messages I post, or allow only messages from those who are subscribed to the list (which then don't get posted but come to me)? The reason for asking is that I have begun to receive some spam being sent to the list, which then generates a message to me stating that an e-mail needs to be reviewed.
