Hi. I'm a new member of this group but have been running an email list with Mailman for a long time. I am now setting a list up again and want to give a "look and feel" to the list which has more branding of my user group as a whole, and less of a Mailman-feel. I seem to remember that besides editing the public HTML pages, it is possible to edit the text files which Mailman automatically sends out for certain needs (such as 'approve.txt', 'adminsubscribeack.txt', 'invite.txt', and so on). A. Is this still the case? B. If so, where can I find them? (in case they've changed from the ones I have from long ago). C. Where do they need putting, so that Mailman can use them again? It's important that I should tell you that Mailman on my webhosts servers is a "server-wide" installation, and I don't get to edit anything which other clients to their servers need. This would be only for my own use, and as such I need to know where these files go in my own webspace, and how to get Mailman to use them instead of the default ones. I should also say that I have done this before, so unless the facility to do this has been ditched in recent years, I *should* still be able to do it ! Does Mailman perhaps look for these files somewhere in my webspace (which I have to give a specific name), and if it doesn't find them it goes on to find its default versions of these files? Running two list with same email prefix

Hi all, I'm running a mail server with Debian Lenny, MTA is Postfix and i will use postfix-to-mailma.py script to run list I would set up Mailman for running mailing list with same email prefix on different domains, obvious with different list names For example we have ml.domain1.com and ml.domain2.net, i would like to have LISTADDRESS LISTNAME tech(a)ml.domain1.com tech-ml.domain1.com tech(a)ml.domain.2.net tech-ml.domain2.net In this way i can have the same address on differente domains and Mailman (my version is 2.1.11) can distinguish between lists because the list name is different. The list name will be also used to access web interface, so we have http://ml.domain1.com/mailman/admin/tech-ml.domain1.com http://ml.domain2.net/mailman/admin/tech-ml.domain2.net Is possible to accomplish this task? Any idea?

Hide list address?

Hi, Is there any way to configure Mailman such that, for an announcement-only type list, when a message is sent to the list, the To: shows the member's address, rather than the list address? Some list software allows the ability to hide the list address itself, so that address is not advertised. I couldn't find any configuration specific to that.

Hevy resource footprint forces backdrop to mailman 2.1

Greetings, after many years of smoothly running a mailman2 instance I had to migrate my virtual server to a new provider. There I found, that mailman2 was no longer supported and tried to migrate to mailman3 .. with much pain and no success. Mailman3 keeps crashing my v-server and swallows almost every mail sent to any of the migrated lists. So I wanted to switch back to mailman 2.1.39 by installing from the source package and found that this also fails due to missing python2 support. How to solve this? Thank you very much

mod_ruid2 and jail apache affects on mailman

Hi, On our cPanel server, I'm getting the following message in the security advisor: Apache vhosts are not segmented or chroot()ed. Enable "mod_ruid2" in the "EasyApache 4" area, enable "Jail Apache" in the "Tweak Settings" area, and change users to jailshell in the "Manage Shell Access" area. Consider a more robust solution by using "CageFS on CloudLinux". Note that this may break the ability to access mailman via Apache. I'm concerned about the mention of breaking Mailman via apache. Can anyone explain this? I would like to enable these security options, but we host many lists, so don't want to break anything.

More on AT&T Policies - Allowing Through Daily Digests

FYI for those plagued by AT&T "spam" management policies: I've continued to monitor my own test AT&T email account. I've recently noticed that AT&T in september started: a) letting through a very few list emails again to my inbox, b) letting a few more list messages through to my spam folder, c) continued to block most list messages entirely, and d) **ALLOWED THROUGH ALL DAILY DIGEST EMAILS!** So if there are 15 messages in a day -- 2 will make it to the Inbox, 3 will make it to Spam, and 10 will disappear to the byte bucket in the sky. All daily digest make it to the inbox (at least for my one att.net account). Please note that this was after no further server settings changes (that I am aware of) than when they blocked ALL list messages. */I have resubscribed every former AT&T member to the daily digest version of our list./**/ /* We continue to recommend not using email addresses managed by AT&T -- but I see an opportunity here to test if we can at least get back members for our daily digest option. restoring a deleted list

I deleted a bunch of old lists on our server a while back; found any list that had no messages in the last two years and deleted via rmlist, but first I copied all the list files in /var/lib/mailman/lists to a different archive directory, just in case. Now 3 months later I’ve gotten a question from someone about "where did this list go?” How can I restore the list? Is it just a matter of creating a new list with the old name, then replacing the files in that directory with the archived ones? Or will just restprign the directory to /var/lib/mailman/lists suffice? AOL -- Automatically Sending List to Spam Folder

*It looks like AOL is now automatically adding our Clinicians Exchange list messages to the Spam Folder. * I don't know yet if this is happening for all AOL members. When I created an AOL account today, it did this from moment one. I just individually emailed all our AOL members from outside the list with directions on how to get into their Spam Folder. They need to click the checkbox to the left of messages that are not spam, then click on the "OK" icon above the message list and they will be moved to the inbox. Supposedly this will stop them from being spammed in the future. I see no way to create a safe list or white list in AOL. The option also does not exist in their filters option. * *All AOL member email addresses remain in good standing in our Clinicians Exchange member database (they have not been deactivated). When I look at our bounce messages, AOL is sending us nothing to tell us they are spamming or discarding our list messages, so I have no feedback from them to know what setting changes would stop this from happening. *Happily -- this seems a pretty easy fix (unspam our list email address once). Duplicate emails being received

Hi, I've got a list with ~1600 subscribers (Mailman 2.1.39). It gets one or two messages posted to it each day (by subscribers). The problem: subscribers are all receiving duplicate copies of the original post and any replies. All the subscribers are have "nodupes" switched on, and the list is set to replies to go to "This list". I restarted the qrunner with: bin/mailmanctl -s restart That seemed to resolve things for a moment but then it started up again. Does anyone have any tips or pointers? Cheers.

mailman2 issue - "Your message was rejected"

Hi all, There is a question about mailman. When I send an email to a mailling list from a non-member, I got the error msg "Your message was rejected". However, the non-member has been defined in accept_these_nonmembers = ['test-info@xx']. some options: ~~~ accept_these_nonmembers = ['test-info@xx'] hold_these_nonmembers = [] reject_these_nonmembers = [] discard_these_nonmembers = [] generic_nonmember_action = 2 nonmember_rejection_notice = '' default_member_moderation = True member_moderation_action = 1 //# Note that for member_moderation_action, 0==Hold, 1=Reject, topics_enabled = 0 ~~~ Maybe it's not due to the non-member setting, since the error will be "Your message has been rejected, probably because you are not subscribed to the mailing list and ..." if the msg is rejected by non-member restriction. The error msg in vette log just shows as below. How to investigate the issue further? vette: ~~~ May xx 10:xx:xx 2022 (2055) Message rejected, msgid: <xxx> list: list name handler: Moderate, reason: Your message was rejected ~~~ Thank you! Yuki
