I hope this ist just a misunderstanding and owed to my lacking knowledge on how venv works ... when trying to migrate lists from mailman 2.1 I hit this: ``` (venv) mailman@arda:/etc/exim4$ python manage.py hyperkitty_import -l stammesleitung(a)list.poc.im /data/var/lib/mailman/archives/private/stammesleitung.mbox/stammesleitung.mbox python: can't open file '/etc/exim4/manage.py': [Errno 2] No such file or directory (venv) mailman@arda:/etc/exim4$ cd /opt/ (venv) mailman@arda:/opt$ find . -name manage.py ./mailman/venv/lib/python3.9/site-packages/mailman_web/manage.py ./mailman/venv/lib/python3.9/site-packages/falcon/bench/dj/manage.py ``` I thought, the venv should take care of finding the right module. tnx

Moderation requests flood after migrating from MM2 to MM3 on Debian

Dear all, this may be of course related to Debian version of Mailman3 (currently 3.3.3, Debian 11 Bullseye), but I hope someone may point me towards a direction in which i should start digging in order to resolve this issue. I have recently migrated two lists from perfectly working MM2 to MM3 using the migration approach outlines in the documentation (https://docs.mailman3.org/en/latest/migration.html), i.e. a) mailman create foo-list(a)example.com b) mailman import21 foo-list(a)example.com /path/to/mailman2/foo-list/config.pck c) python manage.py hyperkitty_import -l foo-list(a)example.com $var_prefix/archives/private/foo-list.mbox/foo-list.mbox d) python manage.py update_index_one_list foo-list(a)example.com I do not have the hyperkitty working properly, but that is not important as for now. What is however important, is that for both lists mailman3 generates approximately every minute a message that it tries to send to the list and the message is catched by the mailman and requires moderation. As a result, I have some 1000 moderation requests for each of the list every day. The requests are mostly of the type Sender: foo-list-owner(a)example.com Subject: foo-list@example.com_post_from_foo-list-owner@example.com_requires_approval Reason: The message is not from a list member I can see also some weird handling of bounced messages (if we try to send an e-mail that bounces, in my opinion it should be silently discarded or sent to foo-list-owner(a)example.com). Sender: microsoftexchange329e71ec88ae4615bbc36ab6ce41109e(a)exampledomain.onmicrosoft.com Subject: Undeliverable:_[FOO]_Meeting Reason: The message is not from a list member I have a strong feeling that I misconfigured MM3 somewhere or that I did not do my homework properly and failed to read relevant parts of the documentation. Delayed messages

Good morning I have several unmoderated lists on Mailman 2.1.38 running on cPanel (106.0.8). The messages sent to the lists are almost immediately visible in the list archives, but are sent to the subscribers with a - sometimes huge - delay. Mostly it is 20 - 40 minutes, but sometimes it is more than one hour. This makes replying difficult for the users because they might give an answer which is already given by someone else, or they miss a clarification. Is this normal to Mailman 2 on cPanel, or is there any possibility to speed up the message delivery? Random Posts Received by List, and Archived, But Not Sent to Members

I’ve got a strange question, that hopefully someone can point me in the right direction. We’ve got a Mailman 2.1.26 server, with Postfix 3.3.0 as the MTA which has been running for several years; however, recently we’ve been noticing random cases where posts sent to a list (it can be any list hosted by the server), are received by Postfix, handed off to Mailman, appear in the list’s archives, but are never sent back out to the list members. In an effort to troubleshot this we have a scheduled task on another sever that sends an hourly “heartbeat” message to a specific list. We’re seeing the following random patterns: * Some days every hourly message arrives to the list, is archived, and is successfully sent to list members. * Some days several of the hourly messages arrives to the list, is archived, and is successfully sent to list members, only to be followed by some (random 1-3) hourly messages that are archived but not sent out, then delivery resumes as expected. There is no consistency with time of day regarding to which messages are not being received by list members. Checking both the Postfix mail.log, and Mailman post log files we notice that the messages which are received by the list members is record within both files; however, the missing messages are only recorded within the Postfix log file, the matching entry in the Mailman post log is absent. Digging through this list’s archives I found a similar post<https://mail.python.org/archives/list/mailman-users@python.org/thread/3FACV…> from years ago; however, no resolution appeared to have been identified. Working through the “4.78 Troubleshooting: No mail going out to lists members<https://wiki.list.org/DOC/4.78%20Troubleshooting-%20No%20mail%20going%20out…>” doesn’t appear to have identify any likely causes/fixes. Any suggestions on how to track down this gremlin? Mailman3 seems highly unreliable

Greetings, after having variuos troubles with mailman3 I subscribed to this list and sent my first message using the web-interface at https://mail.python.org/archives/list/mailman-users@python.org/message/new On sumbission there was no error at all, a green message indicating success etc. But the message never got delivered ... I waited for two hours but nothing happended. The message is gone. On my own server I am having other problems, which I will try to explain again in a new message. AOL list member not receiving list traffic

Hi, Yesterday I received a report from an AOL user that she's not receiving traffic from one of my lists. The problem here is that my server logs show outgoing mail being accepted by AOL's incoming mail servers, and of course after that it's anyone's guess what happens to them. She says she's checked her junkmail folder and the messages aren't there. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Is AOL known to silently discard mail they think is spam for some reason? I replied to her message from the same server and she did receive that reply, so they haven't outright blocked my IP or something. Even if I could contact someone who knows what they're doing at AOL, there are no error logs for me to show. Jayson

bounce back attacks on users via mailman 2 web interface

For the past few months my mailman (2) installation with a dozen lists on it has been convinced to email bomb various random people out there from the list-bounces@ address. I have daily cron jobs that clean this junk out of my postfix queue, as most destinations rate limit me. It's not helping my email reputation at all :-( At first I thought that this was some kind of email amplication attack. After some puzzling, I realized that these were subscribe attempts coming in through the web interface. Sigh. An upgrade to mailman 3 has been in the works for awhile, but it's one of those things best done on a really rainy November when there is nothing else you can do. Are there easy ways to add a CAPTCHA to these old mailman 2 pages?
