Hello! Our site uses mailman to host many mailing lists. Sometimes a person would find it necessary to post to several of the lists at once incurring irritation of the subscribers for the following reasons: 1. People subscribed to more than one list will get the same message multiple times. 2. The same message will be stored in multiple archives increasing their size. 3. The same message will come up multiple times in subsequent searches through the archives. Can our mailman installation be tweaked to eliminate all or some of the above undesirable effects? encodings in digest messages

hello all, Ive been having this problem with digests and encoding. Our lists are multilingual and since only a small fraction of the posts are written in utf our digests get garbled, with some parts being unreadable. Is there any way of setting up mailman so as to generate correct digests i.e. with more than 1 encodings ? To that end: I've set mime_is_default_digest = MIME on the web interface of list's digest page. But stil the digests I receive are unreadable when the text is other than english. >From the Digest headers: - Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" (Why? Ive set it to MIME. and why us-ascii? how can I change that?) - (don't know if this is relevant to the problem) - content-transfer-encoding: 7bit (why? I thought that this should be 8bit??? How do I control this?) If a message was cross-posted to multiple mailing lists and indexed by Google, then Google will most certainly return multiple hits for the same message, and this is precisely what any proper search engine should do. Missing mail

I am totally stumped, I have looked at all the logs including our mail logs. I send a message to a list and it just goes to lala land. I have attached a copy of the logs, hopeing somebody else eyes can see something I cannot, or another place to look. I have lookd in the mailman logs, and the email server logs Here are some logs of an email that did not go to the list, and no bounced messages. really dumb question on getting started; extracting archive

How do you unzip the .tar and .gz files prior to install? For most applications that I'm running on my unix based web server, my process is to unzip on my Windows XP box prior to uploading to the web server. I know basically nothing about unix except how to post files and write simple .cgi code. I'm wanting to install mailman in conjunction with a WordPress plug-in and am pretty much expecting that between WordPress and the WP mailman plug in I won't need to know very much about the unix stuff underneath. But the archive format has me stumped before I even get out the gate. I searched the FAQ on "extract" and "unzip" and found nothing on point. I searched the archives for this mailing list and found 3 other people with the same question but none of the answers were helpful. One person suggested http://www.gzip.org, but that web page states that the solution for unzipping on a windows machine is to use winzip: "To extract .tar and .tar.gz files on Windows 9x/NT/2000/ME/XP use <http://www.sfsu.edu/ftp/win/utils/> PowerArchiver 6.1 (freeware) or <http://www.7-zip.org> 7-zip (freeware) or <http://www.winzip.com> Winzip (commercial)." Winzip says the file format of the files downloaded from SourceForge isn't valid. Specifically the error when I try to extract mailman-2.1.10b1.tgz.gz is "invalid directory" And when I try to extract mailman-2.1.10b1.tar I get "Error reading header after processing 0 entries" Another respondent suggested the GNU installation manual , but those instructions go from this: 2.2 Create the installation directory You are now ready to configure and install the Mailman software. To this SECTION0013100000000000000003.1 Run configure Usually you can just cd to the directory you unpacked the Mailman source tarball into, and run configure with no arguments: Without ever stopping to say how to unpack the file. I'm sure it's obvious to those with passing familiarity with unix, but if its that easy it couldn't hurt to enumerate the steps could it? Thanks, in advance!

Then Mailman will send two "Your subscription is NOMAIL" warning messages to the subscriber. You have bounce_you_are_disabled_warnings_interval = 5 so there will be an additional 10 days (2 warning messages sent to the subscriber) delay. If there is no reply to the second warning message, then finally the e-mail address will be unsubscribed from the list. Look at the list membership and see if the e-mail address in question has been set to NOMAIL [B].
