changing domains on Mailman implementation

Is there an efficient way to change the domain name that mailman is affiliated with? I have two mailing lists that were created for an organization before that organization had their own domain. At the time the organization was sure they did not want their own domain and would not be getting a domain. Since then, they have chosen to get a domain and set up a web site. I would like to move their mailing lists onto their domain. It looks like the process for this is: 1) get the list of subscribers 2) delete the mailing list from the one domain (losing the archives) 3) create the mailing list on the new domain 4) subscribe the list of subscribers This process doesn't seem too difficult, but I would prefer to keep the archives, if possible. Both domains are on the same server, running CentOS7 and PLESK 12.5, if that makes a difference. Thanks, Keith

Spam Subscriptions

I have a mailman installation with over 300 lists. It is cPanel, but I am the administrator so have access to command line etc. I have just two lists that receive a bunch of spam subscribes each day -- hundreds of them, in fact. For some reason -- which is good, they are held, so don't go through, not quite sure why. Two questions -- first is there a file I can erase for each list that will get rid of all the held subscriptions, without breaking anything else. I tried once, and my installation broke -- don't know if it is related, but don't want to try again unless I do it right. Secondly, there is some commonality in the subscribe addresses, are there strings I can use to discard the subscribes so I never have to see them. Below are examples, there is a common word, or a common word, a period ., and another common word, then a plus sign + then a 4 5 or 6 character word, all alpha, and @gmail.com Here are examples: dragonommz+ jwmidnight+ nommz.naidoo+ If I could knock these out, it would be helpful. This has happened several times previously, but has always stopped after a few weeks. This time it has been a couple months. Finally, I know it is probably too late in the Mailman2 cycle to get a new feature, but in the web UI, it would be nice if you could delete all deferred subscriptions. You can do so with deferred messages, that are held, but not subscriptions. Thanks! Dave

Wrong language sent to subscribers

Hello all, I'm using Mailman 2.1.20 on Ubuntu 16, which I installed from their repositories; Python is 2.7. I've set up DEFAULT_SERVER_LANGUAGE to 'ca' in my /etc/mailman/mm_cfg.py file. All the language files can be found at /usr/ share/mailman/ca. However, subscription confirmation notices and acknowledgements are sent only in English. Strangely enough, the subjects are in Catalan, though. Is this a bug? How can I fix it? Rubeno

Cannot discard pending requests

Mailman v2.1.18 on Debian Jessie. Been running mailman (much older version) for years on an old CentOS box. Recently moved to a new machine as above, and migrated a list - no problems there. The list itself seems to be working just fine - mail flowing as expected. However, I've got a couple of pending moderator requests that simply refuse to go away. I can't Accept them, Reject them, or Discard them. Selecting Discard and clicking Submit All Data, the page simply refreshes itself and the items remain unaffected. I do not see any error message, cannot find any indication in any system log that there is a problem of any sort (it's possible I'm not looking in the right place?) I've run check_perms and there are 10 symlinks that are reported with bad groups (has root, expected list) but those cannot be changed, apparently. How can I fix this? Bo

Moving mailman to new server, mails not getting through

Hi I've moving my mailman lists to a new server. I've setup a list, added myself as a subscriber, received a welcome message, tried to post a test message but it disappears into the ether. SourceForge Mailing list "moderator request(s) waiting

Hi all, I recently became an admin of a Mailing list on Sourceforge and I recently changed something in our settings and now I get the daily digests of spam to our list. (This was when Sourceforge had the data migration hiccup not that long ago) Subject: 4 Exult-general moderator request(s) waiting Body: The Exult-general(a)lists.sourceforge.net <mailto:Exult-general@lists.sourceforge.net> mailing list has 4 request(s) waiting for your consideration at: https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/admindb/exult-general <https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/admindb/exult-general> Please attend to this at your earliest convenience. This notice of pending requests, if any, will be sent out daily. Pending posts:… (some posts with Cause: Post by non-member to a members-only list) And it’s driving me nuts because I can’t find the setting I changed. Just maybe it was always like this and I receive them now because I added my email address to admin/moderator panel. I’m not sure, I read through so much that day. I also didn’t find this in the mailman docs but there is so much to read and I might have missed it. Can you help me? Thanks a lot! Dominik

Filtering Chinese spam.

Hello: One of my mailman mailing lists has been suddenly afflicted with tons of Chinese spam. After reading an on-line discussion of this problem and how to handle it from a thread posted to this list in July of 2016, here: https://mail.python.org/pipermail/mailman-users/2016-July/080993.html I have modified my settings in Privacy Options/Spam Filters thusly: ^Subject: =?utf-8?B? ^Subject:.*\?{4,} from: .*(a)qq.com from: .*ebdoor.com from: .*126.com from: .*139.com from: .*136.com from: .*163.com from: .*193.com The "from" expressions have worked quite well, and using those I have cut the Chinese spam by over 90%, but I am still receiving periodic posts from other Chinese senders and I cannot keep adding more items to the "from" set for obvious reasons. Instead, as someone mentioned in that thread of July 2016, I find that all Chinese posts include the expression " =?utf-8?B?" following the word "Subject". Accordingly, I have included that in the first line of my Spam FIlter. However, it does not seem to be working as desired as I am still receiving Chinese spam containing that expression. >From that thread of July 2016, I have, today, added that second line above. Can someone here tell me what I have NOT done correctly with that first line which makes it NOT work as desired? Kenneth G. Hi, We are currently under brute force attack on our mailman server's web ui. Is there anything / feature that Mailman has that can be used to watch/monitor it? Sadly I think we'll have to remove it off the Internet..... regards Steven

'from' header at delivered email from inside / outside organization

Hello Mailman experts, I created a mailing list (i.e. abc(a)ml.abc.co.jp <mailto:abc@ml.abc.co.jp> ) with mailman in our organization. Does anyone know how to configure mailman to achieve expected behavior? Expected behavior: a. When a sender is outside of our organization (abc.co.jp), the received mail should show original sender's email address at 'from' header. b. When a sender is inside of our organization and receiver is outside of our organization, the received mail should show ML address (abc(a)ml.abc.co.jp <mailto:abc@ml.abc.co.jp> ) at 'from' header. I want to know sender's email address if it's from outside our organization but do not want disclose employees' email address in our organization when they send emails to outside our organization.
