How to Fix Hotmail and Outlook to Allow "Safe Mailing Lists"

I pursued this after checking with Microsoft to make sure my domain was not being entirely blocked as a spammer domain.// // //Just in case you have any Hotmail users...// // /-------- Forwarded Message -------- Dear Hotmail Users: A few weeks ago I wrote asking for feedback as to whether or not you are receiving the Clinicians Exchange email list messages. Some Hotmail users wrote back that they ARE receiving list messages. Some Hotmail users wrote back that they ARE NOT receiving list messages. This has been a perplexing problem. I believe we now have a fix (read on to see what to do). The issue is that Hotmail (and Outlook) have an automatic filter rule that filters out all mailing lists where the mailing list address is not your individual address. So anything addressed to "clinicians-exchange(a)clinicians-exchange.org" is thrown away since its not addressed to your individual email address (such as "smith(a)smith.com" -- even though you are on the list). I believe that Hotmail seems to just discard everything to the "bit bucket in the sky" without an error message and without placing such messages in a Junk or Spam folder for possible retrieval. This is specifically a Hotmail problem and is correctable in a non-obvious way requiring many steps. Here are the steps in written form. I have attached a .pdf document with the steps illustrated by pictures: *Setting Up "Safe Mailing Lists" In Hotmail and Outlook** * STEP #1: From the Inbox of your online Hotmail or Outlook email account, click on the "Settings" wheel in the upper right-hand corner of the page. STEP #2: In the "Settings" dropdown control dialogue box on the right-hand side of the screen, scroll down to the bottom of the list (likely off-screen when you first start) and select "View all Outlook Settings". STEP #3: When the controls for "View all Outlook settings" pop-up in a dialogue box, click on "Junk Mail". STEP #4: When the "Junk Mail" controls dialogue box pops-up, scroll down to the "Safe Mailing Lists" section (which will likely be off-screen until you scroll down). STEP #5: Click on "Add". Enter "clinicians-exchange(a)lists.clinicians-exchange.org" and press the "Enter" key on your keyboard. Click on "Add" again and enter "clinicians-exchange(a)clinicians-exchange.org" and press the "Enter" key again. Make sure to click the blue "Save" button at the bottom right of the screen. You are done! Close dialogue boxes and go back to your inbox. Please see attached .pdf for an illustrated version. Some Hotmail users seem to have no problem receiving our list even when these "Safe Mailing List" steps are not implemented. It's weird. acceptable_aliases, multiple addresses

For one list I'm administrating, I want to have two aliases, and I'm unsure how to format the acceptable_aliases value. Is it correct this way? acceptable_aliases = 'user1(a)example.com', 'user1(a)list.example.com' Is this correct, e.g. ending the first line with comma? Thanks Lars

leaking user list to recipient email domains

I'm running Mailman version 2.1.29. I have a Mailman email list that has around 500 subscribers, who are all members of an organization who have opted-in to the list. One of the email addresses on the list used a custom personalized domain, which started bouncing. I didn't notice the bounces at the time. Eventually, Google started sending the list moderators messages saying "Our system has detected an excessively high number of invalid recipients originating from your account," and Gmail started rejecting list messages that were being sent to the list subscribers who use a Gmail address. I removed the bouncing email address from the list, and soon after that Gmail started accepting messages from the email list again. This seems like a very precarious situation to be in... I have a list of 500 email addresses, and Google starts rejecting all incoming email from my list just because 1 of 500 email addresses was bouncing. I sought help from someone at my hosting provider who seems to be knowledgeable about Mailman configuration. He said that the problem was that Mailman was batching up the emails and sending a single email to the entire batch, putting each individual email address in the "RCPT TO" field. So when a bounce happened, Gmail was able to associate the bad address from my domain with the bounce that was happening on the bouncing personalized domain. The advice for fixing the problem was to set the "personalize" setting to "Full Personalization", which would prevent Google from making that association. I think this worked (but don't know for sure, since I don't know that we've had any bounces since then). The problem with "Full Personalization" is that the email headers are being rewritten, which is confusing to users. Now, if someone sends an email to the list, the message that is delivered to each recipient has the recipient's email address in the "To" header and the list email address in the "Cc" header. It works, but it's confusing (and some people's email filters now have to be changed). Questions... 1) Given my description of the initial problem, is "Full Personalization" the best way to fix the issue? 2) Is there a way to fix the issue that doesn't involve rewriting the headers so that the email list address is in the "Cc" field? 3) Would upgrading to Mailman 3 help fix this issue in a better way? Mailman Archives problem

Hi, I am using mailman 2.1.29, pipermail 0.09 , I am facing a problem with the archives attachment. The HTML attachments are scrubbed in the url like "mailman/private/announce/attachments/20191231/1ef651ee/*attachment.htm*" , when we open that url it shows as a html source code. can anyone help me with this issue? Mailman 2.1.24 Recurring Pending Requests

Some time ago, spam received from a faked address. Admin email received 8am each morning listing the pending posts from non-members. Go in and: 1. select 'Reject' on each post 2. add the faked sender to the block from subscribing filter 3. submit all data Mailman reports "There are no pending requests." Tomorrow the same thing happens reporting the same historic date of the non-member post. * Have checked mailserver logs; not being received daily * Have added fake addresses to upstream anti-spam blacklist So, narrowing-down, seems Mailman has groundhog day syndrome?
