After installation everything seems fine until i try to reply to my group to get subscribed..following is a copy of the error. How do members of a private list access archives?

Hi, we run a couple of internal list for the company I work for where we have set the archives only visible to subscribed users. The problem is that I can not figure out how to access the archives as a subscribed user. When I click on the archive link I get this: "The requested URL /mailman/private/mylist/ was not found on this server." On lists where the archives are public I notice the URLs are different: http://www.opera.com/pipermail/mylist/ I can see the archives files are present for these lists. I am just not able to reach them through a web interface. I know I might be missing something obvious, but I'm still not able to figure this out. We are running Debian (Slink) and Mailman v 1.0rc2 installed from deb's. Mass Subscribe Members questions

hi i decide change my Mailing List manager to Mailman :)) i setup all and all work fine with some test i decide to go head with my existant ML. i take the list of existant suscriber and put it in the "Mass Subscribe Members" one address per line. i have 55 existant suscriber. everything like good for verification i see my logs/subscribe and Horror i just see 10 lines with new !!! like this : Sep 03 15:59:49 1999 asjr: new toto(a)toto.net what's happen? any help please thanks

add_members leaves zombies around

I have just been doing a little list rearrangement which involved subscribing 500 members to a list using add_members. Part way through I noticed that my system had a huge number of python zombie processes around - looks suspiciously as though add_members is forking once per new member but nothing is cleaning up afterwards. This also caused the script to bomb out after a couple of hundred. mailman aliases

Wow! I'm impressed. Once past the initial hurdle of the vsnprintf problem and Solaris 2.5, I had mailman installed and working in less that an hour. Beautiful! In case this hasn't been discussed already, I have a suggestion for handling the mailman aliases. The INSTALL file says: - Add aliases for `mailman' and `owner-mailman' to the system's mail alias database. These aliases should point to whoever is ultimately responsible for the Mailman installation. Here are instructions for those running sendmail: 1. su to root. 2. Assuming your email is fred(a)flintstone.com, add the following lines to the file /etc/aliases: mailman: fred(a)flintstone.com mailman-owner: mailman 3. Some versions of sendmail require you to run the program 'newaliases' explicitly. qmail install docs wrong

FYI: I just did my first-ever installation of qmail and noticed a problem in the mailman docs. Installing v1.0 the directions given in INSTALL.QMAIL for the changes to the inetd.conf and hosts.allow are incorrect. The settings in this file did not work, and when I looked in the doc/FAQ in section 5.4 I noticed that the instructions are different. The settings in the FAQ did manage to get things working the way that the should -- it looks like just a couple of changes in syntax, but it would probably be a good idea to change the INSTALL.QMAIL doc. I keep getting this bug report when I try to administer a list. The OS is Unixware 7.1 Is this a problem with the install or underlying OS? Or is something else going on? Bug report Error message!

Hello All, Got the following error when I hit submit to approve a message. The specs are as follows: Solaris 7 Python 1.5.1 Mailman 1.0 (final, no rc anything) Sendmail 8.9.1 check_perms reports everything is fine Apache 1.3.6 The funny thing about this error is one list is having a problem but another list that I am running is working perfectly! @_@; Does anyone have a idea? --------------------Error Message Follows------------------- We're sorry, we hit a bug! Introduction

Hi, I just joined the Mailman-user email list so I thought I'd drop a line and introduce myself. I'm Gary Bowen, aka Listwrangler, and I'm a volunteer with a small non-profit organization that delivers a lot of information and support via web pages and email lists. Our old ISP was in the process of porting us from Majordomo 1.9.3 to Mailman 1.0 when they sold their assets to a new ISP, who has implemented the lists. But, there are bugs... We're having problems with subscribes and unsubscribes, specifically, users' passwords don't work when they try to unsubscribe via the web interface. And when users do get acknowledgements saying the succesfully unsubscribed, they aren't. Also, the email interface doesn't work so that when they try to email in their /unsubscription that doesn't work either. I'd like to work on the web interface problems first. When I go to the info page, enter their address, enter the admin password, and it says, "You have been unsubscribed." But the user still gets email. I then went into the 'View Subscriber List' and found the unsubscribed email address on the subscriber list, and deleted it from there, and got a "You have been unsubscribed" message. I hope they really are unsubscribed. My ISP has informed me that they've done all they intend to do, and that it's now up to me to do the maintenance on the list. Personally, I wonder how I'm supposed to do that when I don't have access to the machine running the list... but that's a separate issue. Anyhow, I'm digging into the archives, but I'd greatly appreciate it if folks could point me to reference books or URLS regarding Mailman. Since the switch is recent, I haven't bought any books and am wondering which ones are good.
