As at least one other person on mailman-dev told you, and I just told you a few minutes ago, so you'll get this answer from me twice, your hostname problems are an smtp issue, not a mailman problem. Stop using CNAMEs for mail if you care what the mail looks like; many mailers, sendmail in particular, will, at either end, rewrite the cname into the canonical name. Change the cname to a duplicate a record with mx.

Have you been looking at your MTA with the same ferver that you've been looking at Mailman? My bet is that it's some sort of interaction with the MTA, but you haven't mentioned what you're using. Duplicate message in mailman :((

hi, i have a problem , i dont if it is a bug or a misconfirution but i report this : MAilman work pretty fine for 2 Weeks and suddently every subscribers receive 2 or 3 copy for the same messages i note this happend when in the list of subscriber an addres have problem my mailq have 20 entry for the same address and after i block this address and empty my mailq everything is good any help, or comments ? thanks patrick

I have grep'd for 'portal' in every directory under /usr/local/mailman, I found no matches. As I said before, I tried changing my hostname to discuss.pentax.com just to test, and I tried changing sendmail's config to think it was on discuss.pentax.com, also added it to my /etc/hosts.. And still, no go. Calling all qmail / mailman admins ...

Try as I might, I still don't have qmail and mailman playing nice together. If anyone has pulled this stunt off, or is currently trying to figure it out (like I am), could you please contact me? I'd like to discuss in an offline e-mail thread all the nuances (above and beyond what's in README.QMAIL) and then post what will hopefully be the definitive "steps to configure" for qmail/mailman. Not that I object to discussing it here (I don't) but if it will help keep the signal/noise ratio down ... :-) -- Joe D'Andrea AT&T Laboratories

Hi, This is semi-urgent, as we move from Majordom to Mailman tommorow for a major corporations mailing list (Pentax Cameras)... We have a host setup to CNAME to our listserv machine: discuss.pentax.com points to portal.navidec.com I have discuss.pentax.com : Host name this list prefers. discuss.pentax.com Base URL for Mailman web interface http://discuss.pentax.com/mailman/ However, ALL mail coming from the list, has a return address of: pentax-discuss(a)portal.navidec.com, instead of pentax-discuss(a)discuss.pentax.com I have: Are replies to a post directed to the original poster or to the list? set to -LIST-. They don't want to default to reply to just that person, it has to stay the same as it used to be, and thats replying to the list. THey do about 2000 posts a day, and this goes live in 15 hours... We are beginning to make use of Mailman here (good work!), and we are using it to provide company wide mailing lists. So, we have umbrella lists that distribute to other areas of the company in other parts of the world. So, a list like "listname(a)ourdomain.com" would be an umbrella for: "listname-us(a)ourdomain.com", "listname-uk(a)ourdomain.com", and so on. We've just started doing this, and myself and the administrator working on this quickly became annoyed that the subject lines ended up looking like: Subject: [listname-us] [listname] Test message So, I modified MailList.py a bit so that it not only checks for subject_prefix in the subject, but also all of the acceptable_aliases for the list. So, now when a message is posted to listname, it gets resent to listname-*; while the subject remains as "Subject: [listname] Test message". The patch for this follows. If anyone cares to now fix the little problem of the footer being added by both lists, I'd like to see the patch for that. Its a minor annoyance, but one I can live with for the time being. -Dan -- Dan A. sendmail says: Data format error

Hi, I have installed Mailman 1.0 on a SuSE 6.2 System running sendmail 8.9.3. There hasn't been any problems during installation. I was able to create a new list and configure it (The name is 'ieg'). When I send a message to the list, it is archived but isn't delivered to the members. All it says in the logs is 'Data format error' and I don't get any response, not even the list owner gets an error message. Would be great if somebody with a better understanding of mail delivery could help. I'm not even sure if this a Mailman problem though it's first I encounter such problems. Thanks.
