a.. We are migrating from another list program to Mailman and adding members via Mass Subscription. Is there any way to skip the Confirm step in this situation? We don't want to "bother" the members with this step, as none of their current processes will be changing. (We use an alias for posting.) b.. Is there any way to edit the content of the following messages, which we'd like to make some minor changes to: a.. Confirm message - other than adding text to the "additional text" box under Mass Subscription b.. Welcome message, other than updating welcome_msg c.. Digest, other than updating digest_header and digest_footer c.. Is there any way that the subject line of the confirm e-mail can be made "friendlier". Seeing something like "confirm 82b57cdc0f01bb4c4954c6346583539ebee04502" in a subject line is daunting to an unsuspecting recipient of a Confirm e-mail via Mass Subscription. d.. Is there any way for the Moderator to be able to edit the content of a posting prior to approval? Note that I am comfortable with HTML, and have already made some minor changes to the public HTML pages, so if the answer is that there are other HTML pages to modify, I'm fine with that. Questions about the "Mass" subscribe option

Hello, Does the mass subscribe option allow for bulk additions from a file containing the list of addresses? Can you invite people to join a list using the mass subscribe option? I would like the potential members to "opt-in" with a confirmation reply e-mail. Regards, Dana

Hello, I am a user of Mailman Mailing List through my webhosting provided by Intermedia.net. I need some help with my mailing list settings. When I first setup the private list I was sending messages in HTML format and they would be delivered in HTML format. Since then I have had a virus/worm/hacker send a virus infected email through my mailing list, which caused me to change the privacy settings and some other settings tying to prevent the intrusion from happening again. Now I can't seem to find out how to change the delivery method back to HTML format. Can you please help me! I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you, Danny T. Hello all, I have searched the FAQ's and a lot of other places, but can't seem to find this out... I have created a few lists, say 1, 2 and 3. Now I want that only listmembers should be able to mail to the list unmoderated. This is very easy, but I also want listmembers of list 1 to mail to list 3 unmoderated. So I was wondering if you can tell Mailman to automatically except mail from non-list members, but who are listmembers from the other 2 lists, in the Privacy section. Of course non-list members who are not member of any of the other 2 lists should not be able to post. Hope anyone can help me... If this is not possible yet in Mailman 2.1 I think this would be a very cool feature... Greetings, Matt

gid problems or something else??

Hi People, I spent most of the weekend trying to install Mailman; no-joy. I got close late Saturday night when I received a "wwlist-request" from my Mailman server on 'sage.thought.org'. When I sent in the reply to "coonfirm" it bounced; the return mail said there was no such user as "wwlist-request". This appears to be a gid problem. Originally, I build things strictly out of the box. I played around with the mailman binary; it said that I should rebuild the suite with '--with-mail-gid=wheel' rather than "mailnull". I rebuilt and reinstalled. No difference. This morning I rebuilt my mailman port from scratch. Here is the output from sendmail's /var/mail/maillog: Sep 20 11:49:39 sage Mailman mail-wrapper: Group mismatch error. Mailman expected the mail wrapper script to be executed as group "mailnull", but the system's mail server executed the mail script as group "daemon". Try tweaking the mail server to run the script as group "mailnull", or re-run configure, providing the command line option `--with-mail-gid=daemon'. low level smtp error

Dear friends I know this topic was already talked on this list but i checked the archive and did not find the right answer for my problem. I'm running mailman on Fedora C2 with apache web server. The web works fine. I was able to create list. After installation i created the mailman list. When i tried to submit new address it seams that the answer disappeared. I found no error logs in SMTP so it went well through alliases. I found this problem in smtp-failure Sep 23 21:22:41 2004 (754) delivery to vladimir.fecko(a)mprint.sk failed with code -1: (111, 'Connection refused') Sep 23 21:22:41 2004 (754) Low level smtp error: (111, 'Connection refused'), msgid: <mailman.0.1095966791.623.tenvors_members(a)mprint.sk> I di not recieved any mails from mailman about confirmation etc. I configured the mailman according the page: http://www.whoopis.com/howtos/mailman-howto.html Can somebody help me please. Newbie requesting basic how-to

This is my first message to the list. I have used listservs for years as an ordinary subscriber, but the time has come to set one up on my local Linux machine, running Fedora Core 2. I have the latest Mailman installed, by default in /var/mailman, but after wending through the volumes of online documentation and email archives, and wandering through the files on my system, I am having trouble finding what I really need at this point, which is one simple instruction for setting it up. What I would really like, of course, would be one command: # Mailman-setup which would present me with a site administrator GUI that would enable me to do everything else. Is there such a thing? I don't want to have to bother with running commands from the shell, as I am not a good typist and my vision is poor, so I really would like a GUI for almost everything that will save me from typos. My needs are very simple. The machine is not open to the world for access. I won't be having anyone on the Internet subscribing. For the time being, it will be used entirely as an internal tool, and initially I will subscribe users. Later, I might want to let them subscribe themselves, but for now it will be used only for announcements to various lists of recipients, going out through any of the MTAs we have running, such as postfix, sendmail, or any of the others that came with Fedora Core 2, which I see are running now in background, although we aren't using them, but using a remote ISP for mail service. We will, however, want to send email out to the Internet. We don't have our own local domain, so I will need to reconfigure our sender address from localhost.localdomain for outgoing email. So all I will want to do, initially, is have the capability to select a recipient list, select a file containing the message body, select the Sender field, select the Reply-to field, enter the Subject, perhaps select a file or files to be the attachments, and hit Enter to begin sending, with perhaps a time delay between messages to avoid overflowing my outbound mail server, whether I use a local server or a remote one. Can anyone provide or point me to simple instructions I can use without spending hours or days of study. I just want a quick setup and ease of use for the moment. Maybe later I will want to use other capabilities as I develop the need and learn how to use them. I might also suggest that documentation like this should be prominently offered on the website. I can't be the only one with this need. I also note that on the page for the list archive, some of the years offered are like 2024 and 2006. Surely your archive is not organized by the date set on the sending machine, but by the date email is actually sent. In case anyone suspects this is for sending spam, it it not. It is in support of various non-profit organizations, such as http://www.constitution.org , and mainly for things like meeting announcements, press releases, and the like. Posts being moderated when they shouldn't

I have done everything I can think of to get these messages to go through without requiring moderator approval, but I am obviously missing something. What is "implicit destination" and how do I get it to just process the message?
