Listinfo columns - can I wrap text

Does anyone know of a way that I can hardcode the size of the columns and wrap the list name text? I'm running into the issue where some list names are lengthy and the description text is getting smashed to the right, primarily because we have our mailman page wrapped into our site's frame. I notice that the description text wraps, but the name itself doesn't. Is there any help for this? -Tim-

Hi, I don't know enough about how new releases are named. Does alpha mean this Mailman 3 is now ready for general use? Should I ask my host provider to move us to it? I'm a bog-standard user so not ready for something that is still going through early tests and doesn't have everything set up yet. Thanks. Clare

Can you Please check as to why I am receiving ALL Trialmembership(a)fillerupclub.com to my email address. The emails are for people to be removed from the trialmembership and are very hostile. I do not own this fillerupclub email. Thank you.

We currently use Lyris for mailing lists. With Lyris we are able to automate the subscription of users to lists by directly updating tables in the MS SQL db. What methods programmatic administration does mailman provide? Aslo, how can we query reports? -----

List information templates - offer of help

I just did a bit of work on the English listinfo.html template for one of my lists (Mailman 2.1.12). It's been a while since I worked on one of these, but I note that the HTML is a terrible mess, and years out of date with current standards and best practice for HTML composition. This may work in most browsers, but make editing the document a PITA. * Indentation, which is supposed to aid with tag matching for human editors, is rather inconsistent (to put it mildly ;-) * Modern HTML documents should have a <!DOCTYPE> declaration, which isn't present. * The <ul> tag is used to generate a section indent. Modern HTML uses a style. * The case of tags and attribute names is inconsistent and difficult to follow. Modern usage, consistent with XHTML, requires all tags and attributes to be lower case. Even for HTML 4.01 transitional, it would be a good idea to make the case of tags match throughout the document. * Form tags are crossed with table tags. This is, I believe, out of spec, and "results may vary". * There are a number of other HTML usage irregularities which should be corrected, such as the deprecated use of the <p> tag without a matching </p> end tag. Would it be helpful if I were to work on cleaning up and modernizing this document and submit it to the Mailman devs? I do HTML composition and authorship professionally and do this kind of thing every day or so. Or perhaps a reworking of the document is already in the pipeline .... I could only do the English version, since this is the only language I speak. Additionally, it seems that mailing lists have come into common use by and for people with little computer experience, and especially for distribution lists, choices such as those associated with subscriber lists and digests are irrelevant and potentially off-putting to these folks, and it should be possible to present a list info form with only a description of the list, plus the options of subscribing, unsubscribing and contacting the list owner. For perhaps 90% of the lists out there, I'd guess that these are all that are needed. One more note. I note that replacement tokens in this document are delimited with angle brackets, much as are HTML tags. Puzzle Regarding Sender Header

I just moved a Mailman setup from one server to another. This is Mailman 2.1.12, with one modification, described in this message:[1] Basically, I change the Sender header in SMTPDirect.py so it comes from the -admin address rather than the -bounce address: # msg['Sender'] = envsender msg['Sender'] = mlist.getListAddress('admin') The new server has two network interfaces. Each interface has its own IP. The second interface has a single IP, call it 127.0.0.2, with two hostnames mapped to it: intranet.foo.org. A 127.0.0.2 lists.foo.org A 127.0.0.2 The reverse DNS mapping for 127.0.0.2 points to intranet.foo.org. I've set the host_name for all the lists to be 'lists.foo.org'. I also set DEFAULT_EMAIL_HOST and DEFAULT_URL_HOST to 'lists.foo.org'. I also ran fix_url for all the lists. Everything is working fine, except for one problem: the Sender: header in messages is 'listname-admin(a)intranet.foo.org' rather than the desired 'listname-admin(a)lists.foo.org'. I added this to mm_cfg.py, but it didn't help: DEFAULT_EMAIL_HOST = 'lists.foo.org' DEFAULT_URL_HOST = 'lists.foo.org' add_virtualhost(DEFAULT_URL_HOST, DEFAULT_EMAIL_HOST) The weird thing is that if I use withlist, it tells me the list address is 'lists.foo.org' (I've obfuscated the hostname consistent with the rest of this message): $ withlist -l test Loading list test (locked) The variable `m' is the test MailList instance >>> m.getListAddress('admin') 'test-admin(a)lists.foo.org' >>> m.getListAddress() 'test(a)lists.foo.org' >>> I undid my patch as a sanity check, but it does what I'd expect: the Sender: header is now "test-bounces(a)intranet.foo.org" rather than "test-admin(a)intranet.foo.org", but not "test-bounces(a)lists.foo.org". Hello everyone, welcome to 2010 and another Mailman 3 alpha release. I'm happy to announce Mailman 3.0 alpha 5. New in this release are additional REST API methods for subscribing and unsubscribing email addresses to mailing lists, and for listing all members of all mailing lists. Mailman also properly handles the -join, -leave, and -confirm email commands and sub-addresses (-subscribe and -unsubscribe are aliases for -join and -leave).
