Hi. I'm a new member of this group but have been running an email list with Mailman for a long time. I am now setting a list up again and want to give a "look and feel" to the list which has more branding of my user group as a whole, and less of a Mailman-feel. I seem to remember that besides editing the public HTML pages, it is possible to edit the text files which Mailman automatically sends out for certain needs (such as 'approve.txt', 'adminsubscribeack.txt', 'invite.txt', and so on). A. Is this still the case? B. If so, where can I find them? (in case they've changed from the ones I have from long ago). C. Where do they need putting, so that Mailman can use them again? It's important that I should tell you that Mailman on my webhosts servers is a "server-wide" installation, and I don't get to edit anything which other clients to their servers need. This would be only for my own use, and as such I need to know where these files go in my own webspace, and how to get Mailman to use them instead of the default ones. I should also say that I have done this before, so unless the facility to do this has been ditched in recent years, I *should* still be able to do it ! Does Mailman perhaps look for these files somewhere in my webspace (which I have to give a specific name), and if it doesn't find them it goes on to find its default versions of these files? Running two list with same email prefix

Hi all, I'm running a mail server with Debian Lenny, MTA is Postfix and i will use postfix-to-mailma.py script to run list I would set up Mailman for running mailing list with same email prefix on different domains, obvious with different list names For example we have ml.domain1.com and ml.domain2.net, i would like to have LISTADDRESS LISTNAME tech(a)ml.domain1.com tech-ml.domain1.com tech(a)ml.domain.2.net tech-ml.domain2.net In this way i can have the same address on differente domains and Mailman (my version is 2.1.11) can distinguish between lists because the list name is different. The list name will be also used to access web interface, so we have http://ml.domain1.com/mailman/admin/tech-ml.domain1.com http://ml.domain2.net/mailman/admin/tech-ml.domain2.net Is possible to accomplish this task? Any idea?

Hide list address?

Hi, Is there any way to configure Mailman such that, for an announcement-only type list, when a message is sent to the list, the To: shows the member's address, rather than the list address? Some list software allows the ability to hide the list address itself, so that address is not advertised. I couldn't find any configuration specific to that.

mailman2 issue - "Your message was rejected"

Hi all, There is a question about mailman. When I send an email to a mailling list from a non-member, I got the error msg "Your message was rejected". However, the non-member has been defined in accept_these_nonmembers = ['test-info@xx']. some options: ~~~ accept_these_nonmembers = ['test-info@xx'] hold_these_nonmembers = [] reject_these_nonmembers = [] discard_these_nonmembers = [] generic_nonmember_action = 2 nonmember_rejection_notice = '' default_member_moderation = True member_moderation_action = 1 //# Note that for member_moderation_action, 0==Hold, 1=Reject, topics_enabled = 0 ~~~ Maybe it's not due to the non-member setting, since the error will be "Your message has been rejected, probably because you are not subscribed to the mailing list and ..." if the msg is rejected by non-member restriction. The error msg in vette log just shows as below. How to investigate the issue further? vette: ~~~ May xx 10:xx:xx 2022 (2055) Message rejected, msgid: <xxx> list: list name handler: Moderate, reason: Your message was rejected ~~~ Thank you! Yuki

AOL list member not receiving list traffic

Hi, Yesterday I received a report from an AOL user that she's not receiving traffic from one of my lists. The problem here is that my server logs show outgoing mail being accepted by AOL's incoming mail servers, and of course after that it's anyone's guess what happens to them. She says she's checked her junkmail folder and the messages aren't there. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Is AOL known to silently discard mail they think is spam for some reason? I replied to her message from the same server and she did receive that reply, so they haven't outright blocked my IP or something. Even if I could contact someone who knows what they're doing at AOL, there are no error logs for me to show. Jayson

Welcome E-mail Reply To

Hi guys, So I just recently purchased a mailman 2.1.39 hosted list from mailmanlists.org. I'm trying to start a mailing list for my gliding club where most of the membership is not terribly technologically literate (fortunately I am) and not big on reading directions, so I'm trying to keep it as simple and as least error-prone as possible for our club members. I have ran into 2 problems that could potentially cause a member to think he's sending an e-mail to the list, but actually isn't. Problem #1: One of my friends (who isn't tech savvy and doesn't read directions) was my guinea pig and successfully joined. The problem is he tried to send his first e-mail to the list by simply replying to the welcome e-mail, so he e-mailed my-list-request(a)mailmanlists.org and not my-list(a)mailmanlists.org. Wouldn't surprise me if others do the same thing. Is there any option to change the address the welcome e-mail comes from? Is there any other good ways to mitigate this problem? The other has to do with the replying and the "nodupes" feature. So first, I am trying to keep the list as collaborative as possible and have people replying to messages to the whole list and not to the original sender. first_strip_reply_to is on, reply_goes_to_list is set to "This list" and from_is_list is set to "Munge From". So here's the scenario about how an e-mail that should have gone to the list actually just went to an individual user: 1) Bob sends an e-mail to the list. 2) Steve replies all (not just reply) to this e-mail. This sends it both to my-lists(a)mailmanlists.org and bob(a)bobs-domain.com. 3) The "nodupes" flag on Bob's account realizes Bob will get the e-mail directly when Steve e-mailed bob(a)bobs-domain.com as part of the reply and the other part of the reply to my-list(a)mailmanlists.org is stripped away (at least for Bob) so that Bob doesn't get the reply twice. 4) Now Bob hits reply (not reply all) to the reply e-mail, but since the reply e-mail he received was sent directly to bob(a)bobs-domain.com and not the reply e-mail that went through my-lists(a)mailmanlists.org the reply address is steve(a)steves-domain.com, not my-list(a)mailmanlists.org. 5) The reply to the reply is now just addressed to Steve, not the whole list! I couldn't find any combination of first_strip_reply_to, reply_goes_to_list and from_is_list to make this problem go away and keep everyone on the list regardless of reply or reply all. The anonymous_list option solves it, but then it strips the original sender's name (not just their e-mail address) and I don't want that. Keeping "Bob via my-list (my-list(a)mailmanlists.org)" without bob(a)bobs-domain.com in the Cc, From fields or anywhere else would be ideal, but I can't figure out how to make that happen. Anybody have any ideas? Thanks! Omri
