Getting Mailman to work properly.....

HI all, I have installed mainman under a SuSe 9.0 system. server starts up correctly. i made a default mail list... added users to it. when I check the /var/lib/mailman/lists/mailman directory is a see a digest.mbox when i edit the file. i see the pending email i've sent to the list. the problem is, they're not being propregated through the list. they're simply stored in the mbox. any hints/ideas as to what could be wrong? PS. system is running postfix/courier-imap

New Subscriptions (2.1.5)

I have installed Mailman 2.1.5 used the mass add to subscribe a bunch of existing users, all received a confirmation regarding their subscription. However, when a new user subscribes no confirmation email is sent and since the list(s) require confirmation, none of the new users are getting subscribed. I look in 'logs/subscribe' and see a TON of pending requests, but none have been confirmed. I tested this myself with a different email address and sure enough I did not receive anything from the mail server. Can anyone help me out, I have no idea where to even begin looking to get this solved. Just for the record, all users who are currently subscribed can post just fine. The lists are quite active, so the only problem seems to be the new subscription email doesn't seem to be sent. I see no records in 'logs/smtp' for sending out the confirmations. Though, I am not sure if that gets logged here or not. Please help!

mailman: How can we send a newsletter to our customers?

Shortly we have activated our mailinglist and it works, but we don't know how we can attach an (HTML) newsletter to our customers who are on the list. We want to send a monthly newsletter, can you help us. On www.list.org <http://www.list.org/> I cannot find anything of topics where I can find an answer how to send a newsletter. Status of RSS generated by mailman?

I'm reading docs, seeing details of a patch making its way towards acceptance, that would give us RSS feeds pointing pack into mailman archives. The trail sort of fades in 2003. https://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=657951&group_id=10 3&atid=300103 The RSS feature isn't mentioned anywhere as included. Is it still viable to use the patch anyway? Is work on this dead for now? Kirby

Unable to subscribe after confirmation

Hi, Till yesterday my setup of mailman 2.0.14-18 was working which was running on SUSE Enterprise 8. All of a sudden, it's giving straneg problems... Now, if any mail is sent to the list, it doesn't reach the recipients. I checked all the logs and even tried creating a new mailing list but that too didnot work out.. Here is what I did with the newlist. Created the new list.. Added the aliases.. Got the mail upon list creation Subscribed to the list through my different email address. Checked in the ~mailman/logs/subscribe.. it shows as pending Received a confirmation mail - so that the subscription can be validated. Sent reply mail confirming the same.. But the log still shows as pending and not as new.. Please help me with getting this setup up and running Thanks Jerome

Exim Filters - local_suffix Problem

I have been trying to figure this out for a couple of weeks now, got some help, but nothing seems to work. I wish to forward bounce messages that come in from Mailman to both the Mailman processor and another local account. I have tried using the filter as per Exim Spec. 42.7 userforward: driver = redirect check_local_user file = $home/.forward local_part_suffix = -* local_part_suffix_optional allow_filter It runs a user's .forward file for all local parts of the form *username-**. Within the filter file the user can distinguish different cases by testing the variable $local_part_suffix. For example: if $local_part_suffix contains -special then save /home/$local_part/Mail/special endif by both the given example and and by substituting a "deliver me(a)mymail.com" in place of the save command. I am also set an absolute path "/home/user/mail/special". Any way I try it, I always receive: unable to set gid=32044 or uid=32043 and mailman_userforward router (recipient is catchall(a)servername.com): failure to transfer data from subprocess: status=0100 readerror='No such file or directory' - when the file directory does exist. I cannot try to test local (using exim -d ) as since that is a local account the routers treat differently. I have tried using vfilers - but it never seems to get there - because of the local domain issue. It also seems that I cannot do a -d-all in the startup daemon - as it looks like Cpanel does not compile with the debug option on - as no debug info shows up and the daemon shows it being run. I have set permissions to 644 and gave owner/group to owner/owner, owner/mail and owner/nobody. I have tried putting quotes around the match, i.e. special in this example and have tried doing a match on $local_part. All give the same response. Any help would be appreciated. I do not even have to do it this way - just any way that will work. Oh, I have removed the -bounces from the mailman_virtual_router - otherwise the message would never go anywhere other than to mailman's command structure through the special mailman_virtual_transport. If could have transport point (go to) both a command and a local account, that would also solve my problem.

Trouble Sending Attachments to MailMan Lists with Eudora 6

Hello, Last month we started to provide a MailMan (version 2.1.5) list for Public Libraries in Wisconsin. Sending messages with binary attachments (like Excel files) to MailMan lists with Eudora 6 seems to be problematic. The problem does not occur in testing with Netscape or Mozilla email clients. Many of our list subscribers stated that the attachment had become part of the text message as a large random table of text. mailman 2.1.5 subject line problem

Hello, i installed mailman 2.1.5 on Linux (rh9). The problem is with letters where are used national characters (8 bit [#128..#255] from baltic cp Windows 1257 or ISOxxxx-13) in subject line. Mailman does not pass such letters (discards them without any message). Earlier version (2.0.14) had not such problem.

Scrubber features

Does Scrubber have the capibility of allowing attachments through that are a certain size? I know once you configure Scrubber and put it in action in Mailman, it will strip every attachment. This will not work for me, I would like to have Scrubber only strip attachments if there over a certain size. HTML formatted email issues

I am attempting to send an HTML formatted newsletter using Mailman with MS Outlook as the client with no success; the HTML code is always stripped out. I have read the FAQ and searched the archives but have not found the solution to my problem. Has anyone had any luck with using Mailman and Outlook to send HTML formatted email? Any suggestions on solving this problem would be greatly appreciated.
