Hi. I'm a new member of this group but have been running an email list with Mailman for a long time. I am now setting a list up again and want to give a "look and feel" to the list which has more branding of my user group as a whole, and less of a Mailman-feel. I seem to remember that besides editing the public HTML pages, it is possible to edit the text files which Mailman automatically sends out for certain needs (such as 'approve.txt', 'adminsubscribeack.txt', 'invite.txt', and so on). A. Is this still the case? B. If so, where can I find them? (in case they've changed from the ones I have from long ago). C. Where do they need putting, so that Mailman can use them again? It's important that I should tell you that Mailman on my webhosts servers is a "server-wide" installation, and I don't get to edit anything which other clients to their servers need. This would be only for my own use, and as such I need to know where these files go in my own webspace, and how to get Mailman to use them instead of the default ones. I should also say that I have done this before, so unless the facility to do this has been ditched in recent years, I *should* still be able to do it ! Does Mailman perhaps look for these files somewhere in my webspace (which I have to give a specific name), and if it doesn't find them it goes on to find its default versions of these files? Running two list with same email prefix

Hi all, I'm running a mail server with Debian Lenny, MTA is Postfix and i will use postfix-to-mailma.py script to run list I would set up Mailman for running mailing list with same email prefix on different domains, obvious with different list names For example we have ml.domain1.com and ml.domain2.net, i would like to have LISTADDRESS LISTNAME tech(a)ml.domain1.com tech-ml.domain1.com tech(a)ml.domain.2.net tech-ml.domain2.net In this way i can have the same address on differente domains and Mailman (my version is 2.1.11) can distinguish between lists because the list name is different. The list name will be also used to access web interface, so we have http://ml.domain1.com/mailman/admin/tech-ml.domain1.com http://ml.domain2.net/mailman/admin/tech-ml.domain2.net Is possible to accomplish this task? Any idea?

Hide list address?

Hi, Is there any way to configure Mailman such that, for an announcement-only type list, when a message is sent to the list, the To: shows the member's address, rather than the list address? Some list software allows the ability to hide the list address itself, so that address is not advertised. I couldn't find any configuration specific to that.

Using cronjob to remove and add members to a mailing list

I want to be able to run a cronjob on my server that uses a php script to add new users and/or remove users from a mailing list. Not having any luck finding any simple examples. My thought is that the php script would get email addresses from a database (which I can do) and then feed them to a mailman command line to either add or remove a user. The cronjob is entered via Cpanel. Have several cronjobs that modify databases but have never tried something that would actually execute a unix command. Thanks, Pineyscripter

Problem with outlook.com

Hello list. For some reason none of hotmail or outlook users don't receive any of our newsletter. Finally all of them auto unsubscribe. The following is an error received form protection.outlook.com: Remote Server returned '550 5.6.0 CAT.InvalidContent.Exception: ExchangeDataException, Decoding of header Subject failed+ADs- raw value: +AFs-Ps+AF0- +AD0-?iso8859-7?b?wer98fnz5yDF8OX05enh6t7yIOXq5N7r+-fPn8iDz9Oft?+AD0-; cannot handle content of message That happened since September 10th this year. Before, all received without problem. Any suggestions? Thank you in advance. Nikos.

Weekly and month digests

Hi, I've encountered a puzzle where weekly digests are not being sent, and I'm trying to understand how periodic digests work. Daily digests and running the command below (as root) seems to work okay. /usr/bin/python /var/lib/mailman/cron/senddigests -l <LISTNAME> Looking at Mailman's cron for digests I see the command for daily digests: cat /var/lib/mailman/cron/crontab.in ... # Noon, mail digests for lists that do periodic as well as threshhold delivery. 0 12 * * * /usr/bin/python -S /var/lib/mailman/cron/senddigests ... All good there. For weekly and monthly digests to be sent should I add additional lines to Mailman's "crontab.in" (or even the system's crontab)? For example: # 3:00 PM every Friday 0 15 * * 5 /usr/bin/python -S /var/lib/mailman/cron/senddigests # 9:00 AM first day of each month 0 9 1 * * /usr/bin/python -S /var/lib/mailman/cron/senddigests Or does the "senddigests" script handle weekly and monthly digests by retrieving info from somewhere? And if so, where does Mailman get the information as to which digests should be sent weekly or monthly? And also if so, what day of the week/month should it be sending by default for those digests? On an imported lists, I can send a mail to the list, it is archived BUT not relayed to the members.

Hello, Thanks for all the work on mailman3, wich I've installed to replace mailman2. On the new installation, I can create a new list, add members, send an recieve messages and they are properly archived and I'm happy because everything seems to be working as expected. But… With a list I created to importe the members and the archives, I have a problem. I followed this https://docs.mailman3.org/en/latest/migration.html to do the import. The result is that everything seems to be good except that, if I send a message, it is not relayed to the members. I tried by sending from my mail client and dirrecty from the web interface, the result is the same. The mail is received and archived and in the /var/log/mailman3/web/mailman-web.log I see a lot of « loops » with this kind of content : … [pid: 32617|app: -1|req: -1/57] ::1 () {38 vars in 782 bytes} [Tue Apr 26 15:25:30 2022] GET /hyperkitty/api/mailman/urls?mlist=THE-LIST%40SUB.DOMAIN.EXT.be&msgid=e7eab1aa-b592-9b6b-5912-0a1004ba4e10%40OTHERDOMAIN.EXT&key=bo44goajulr n0fa2bpt8zk2cxbaemlbq => generated 21 bytes in 0 msecs (HTTP/1.1 500) 2 headers in 83 bytes (0 switches on core 1) … To stop those « loops » and the logfile growing, I have to stop the mailman3 service and restart it. I have compared (based on the web interface) the setting of the « new list » and the « imported list », I found some small differences and even if I set the same settings, the result is the same. How do I send an email to all list admins? How to delete large numbers of held messages

We had a mail loop on one of our lists and ended up with over 51k messages in pending (held due to post not form a list member) Trying to delete them from the web UI will take forever, as the largest pagination you can view is 200 at a time. Tried to delete them from the Python interactive shell, but it looks like the API times out after a while. Is there another way to delete all these unwanted held posts?
