question regarding cron

Hello, I have installed mailman on my debian woody. I have checked recently my /var/log/auth.log and they are poluated by a cron that is being executed by mailman every minutes of every day: # */5 * * * * list [ -x /usr/bin/python -a -f /usr/lib/mailman/cron/gate_news ] && /usr/bin/python /usr/lib/mailman/cron/gate_news * * * * * list [ -x /usr/bin/python -a -f /usr/lib/mailman/cron/qrunner ] && /usr/bin/python /usr/lib/mailman/cron/qrunner Can you explain me this ? Is this really necessary ? Can we prevent it from being printed in my /auth.log ? Thanks alot Alex

Local list between Mailman and Public mail server.

Hi List, I am very newbie to this MM. I have created a Mailing List (listname) in my Local server.My domain name is, say local.com. In local server, i am running sendmail, everything is working fine. I want to make this local list to my Public mail server also. I have another public mail server called isp.com. I want to make this local LIST available for the people having account in isp mail server. so the user's from isp.com can access this local list.i have created account listname(a)isp.com. suppose a user from isp server, post a mail should reach the local server and vice versa. The isp user will use maillisting's name as listname(a)isp.com But the local user as listname(a)local.com. I have added RELAY to isp mail server in my mailman configuration to forward local mails. Planning to run Fetchmail, to get the mail from listname(a)isp.com and put it into mailman's account.I am not expert in sendmail and also in MM. It would be very greatful, if any one pointing me right direction... Thanks Prakash

List sends but does not receive, using Qmail.

Okay, things are looking good on my install. However, I'm using Qmail on my server and my lists are not receiving anything. They are sending fine, but a test message never makes it. This is on FreeBSD with Mailman installed with port. The Mailman documentation for this looks daunting. Any help is appreciated. -- IV

Hi, I have lists that were originally configured for maillist.linuxmednews.com now I would like them to be configured for www.linuxmednews.com I've changed things under the covers and I can get to the main admin screen at http://www.linuxmednews.com/mailman/admin/mednews, login okay, but when I try to get to a submenu, it tries to change www.linuxmednews.com to maillist.linuxmednews.org which gives a resource not found, naturally because it doesn't exist. How/where can I change the lists old internal references to go to www.linuxmednews.com not maillist.linuxmednews.org? Thanks, -- IV

How do I default to HTML, not plain text emails?

How do I make it so that new members on the lists get HTML email. It defaults to plain and after a bulk insert, I have to manually go check that checkbox. Grr.

Sendmail: using aliases

I have Mailman installed ok on Mac OS 10.3. The web interface works fine, admin emails work fine, but the documentation on creating aliases to receive list email via sendmail seems to be missing. If I have a list called mylist(a)acme.com how do I get it to mailman from sendmail. How do I have one list send to another list.

I used to use the older mailman on RH8 and things "just worked", after upgrading to the new mailman, I'm spending a lot of time approving requests and maintenance. My main thing now is that I have one list "party(a)daevid.com" that I have an automated crontab that mails out a list of events from a database once a week. There is another list "rbc(a)daevid.com" that is subscribed to the "party@" list where all members should be allowed to post to the list. I've added all combinations of email addresses I can think of to "rbc(a)daevid.com" list: party-admin(a)daevid.com party-bounces(a)daevid.com party(a)daevid.com Under the "sender/non-member filters" I added: party(a)daevid.com ^.*(a)*\.daevid\.com ^.*(a)daevid\.com And in /usr/local/mailman/Mailman/mm_cfg.py I added: USE_ENVELOPE_SENDER = Yes Then I do "/etc/init.d/mailman restart"

Doubts about "-request"

Hi friends, my name is Daniel Tygel, from Brasil. I'm the administrator of a list which is powered by mailman (great software!!). I'm having now some problems which I really cannot understand (my list is called "boletim(a)fbes.org.br"): If someone sends a message to boletim-request(a)fbes.org.br with the subject "help", it works allright, giving all the commands. But if someone sends a message to boletim-request(a)fbes.org.br with subject "subscribe", simply NOTHING happens! What can be wrong? Is it some server issue or some misconfiguration? Hi, I'm trying to get Mailman working on a FreeBSD system X 3 days now. I have followed the install document very carefully, apache and mailman are loaded and running. However, I cannot get to anything. I have the following in my vhosts.conf file: <VirtualHost *:80> ServerName mailman.linuxmednews.com DocumentRoot /usr/local/mailman/data </VirtualHost> <VirtualHost *:80> ServerName test.linuxmednews.com DocumentRoot /usr/local/www/data </VirtualHost> ... I put test-cgi into /usr/local/mailman/cgi-bin/ and when I try http://mailman.linuxmednews.com/cgi-bin/test-cgi, it works. However, none of the other mailman executables in that directory do anything and I certainly cannot get the usual form of mailman URL's (http://linuxmednews.com/mailman/... to work at all. I'm running this alongside Zope and I am running out of time to work on this. -- IV
