Hi. I'm a new member of this group but have been running an email list with Mailman for a long time. I am now setting a list up again and want to give a "look and feel" to the list which has more branding of my user group as a whole, and less of a Mailman-feel. I seem to remember that besides editing the public HTML pages, it is possible to edit the text files which Mailman automatically sends out for certain needs (such as 'approve.txt', 'adminsubscribeack.txt', 'invite.txt', and so on). A. Is this still the case? B. If so, where can I find them? (in case they've changed from the ones I have from long ago). C. Where do they need putting, so that Mailman can use them again? It's important that I should tell you that Mailman on my webhosts servers is a "server-wide" installation, and I don't get to edit anything which other clients to their servers need. This would be only for my own use, and as such I need to know where these files go in my own webspace, and how to get Mailman to use them instead of the default ones. I should also say that I have done this before, so unless the facility to do this has been ditched in recent years, I *should* still be able to do it ! Does Mailman perhaps look for these files somewhere in my webspace (which I have to give a specific name), and if it doesn't find them it goes on to find its default versions of these files? Running two list with same email prefix

Hi all, I'm running a mail server with Debian Lenny, MTA is Postfix and i will use postfix-to-mailma.py script to run list I would set up Mailman for running mailing list with same email prefix on different domains, obvious with different list names For example we have ml.domain1.com and ml.domain2.net, i would like to have LISTADDRESS LISTNAME tech(a)ml.domain1.com tech-ml.domain1.com tech(a)ml.domain.2.net tech-ml.domain2.net In this way i can have the same address on differente domains and Mailman (my version is 2.1.11) can distinguish between lists because the list name is different. The list name will be also used to access web interface, so we have http://ml.domain1.com/mailman/admin/tech-ml.domain1.com http://ml.domain2.net/mailman/admin/tech-ml.domain2.net Is possible to accomplish this task? Any idea?

Excessive or fatal bounces issue

Hello, I've been having some issues lately. We are using Mailman 2.1.15. I've looked over the FAQ but the only thing that I could find is to contact the ISPs and ask to be whitelisted - am I understanding this correctly? Here is a brief description of the issue: Our server hosts 5 listserv, the biggest one counts over 530 subscribed members from 55 different countries. We had received sporadic bounces triggered by emails sent to these lists since the install of the server in 2016, but in the last months the number of bounces we get has increased. We receive these bounce notifications informing us that the given *subscription has been disabled* due to *excessive or fatal bounces *(up to around 30 bounce notifications triggered by a single email sent to one of the listservs). Every time we get such notifications, we untick the bounce under “nomail [reason]" in the admin management site for each of the email addresses that haven been disabled by the system. Furthermore, it has happened several times in the past few months that a number of email addresses have been automatically removed from the listservs (at the same time, from different countries). We have not found an explanation for why this happens or a solution, so the only thing we are able to do is to manually add them back to the listservs. We have also asked these colleagues for which we have received bounces to check whether there is anything blocking the listservs’ emails from their side (note that many of them work in ministries or agencies with strong security features), and to add the server IP to the white list, but the problem persists. Hide list address?

Hi, Is there any way to configure Mailman such that, for an announcement-only type list, when a message is sent to the list, the To: shows the member's address, rather than the list address? Some list software allows the ability to hide the list address itself, so that address is not advertised. I couldn't find any configuration specific to that.

List emergency moderation

We have a number of mainly announcement-only lists that I’ve set the ’set everyones moderation bit including members not visible’ to on. I need to un-moderate a few members, and I do that via the command line in a script withlist -r set_mod <listname> -u <email address> But they are not being un-moderated. How to determine moderation flag from config.pck

I'm trying to figure out how to extract the moderation flag for each user in a list's config.pck file. I know from Defaults.py that it's in the "Bitfield for user options" section (below). But for a config.pck with the following: 'user_options': {'rclemings+20230814(a)gmail.com': 296, 'rclemings+authuser1(a)gmail.com': 392, 'rclemings+authuser(a)gmail.com': 408, 'rclemings(a)gmail.com': 328}, How can I tell which ones are moderated? Automatically, I mean. I know the "moderated" value is 128, but I don't understand how (or if it's even possible) to pull out the value for a single flag. # Bitfield for user options. Subscribe without Account is missing

Hello, I'm list admin of "bit-dev" on python.org and wonder if I can set this up myself or if this need be concerned by the server admin. I want to have my users subscribe to a list without creating an account at python.org first. Your own docu tells about a way to subscribe without an account here at bullet point 4: https://docs.mailman3.org/en/latest/userguide.html#how-do-i-join-a-list See as an exmaple about "bit-dev" https://mail.python.org/mailman3/lists/bit-dev.python.org/ There is no way to subscribe to that list without creating an account first. It is the same at your own list https://mail.python.org/mailman3/lists/mailman-users.python.org/ Can I modify this or is this the mail servers admin responsibility? Kind Christian Buhtz

Hevy resource footprint forces backdrop to mailman 2.1

Greetings, after many years of smoothly running a mailman2 instance I had to migrate my virtual server to a new provider. There I found, that mailman2 was no longer supported and tried to migrate to mailman3 .. with much pain and no success. Mailman3 keeps crashing my v-server and swallows almost every mail sent to any of the migrated lists. So I wanted to switch back to mailman 2.1.39 by installing from the source package and found that this also fails due to missing python2 support. How to solve this? Thank you very much

Missing emails

I have a list using 2.1.39 in Cpanel. When I send a message through the list subscribers at Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo, Q.com, and CenturyLink do not receive the message. It does not bounce or go into spam or any folder. They just seem to disappear. Other email providers seem to be getting the messages. Any ideas on how to fix this?
