Configuring Mailman to repect Resent-From headers

Hi, What should I do to configure Mailman to : Accept messages only from subscribed emails. *And* To have mailman being compliant to RFC-822's Resent-From Header ? I'm trying to use MailMan for its listserve features only. In other words I have _NO_ (ooops) need for the web site interface. In fact, there will be only one person that sends to the list. I'd like to customize the email that is sent out to the list but cannot seem to find a template for that. Users will email the admin directly and they will remove them from the list via a seperate back-end feature not related to Mailman. multiple reply-to adresses?

Yo! Mailman (stable - 2.0.9-1 Debian pkg) seems to not allow multiple adresses in a Reply-To: field (set via web interface as explicit return address), while many mailers do not have a problem with it. Even posts to unrestricted lists require admin approval

Hello I have set up Mailman 2.0.11 (upgrade from 2.0.8, problem present there too), sendmail 8.10.2 on a Linux 2.2.16 box. So far everything runs perfectly well, i.e. posts come through to the wrapper and are sent out. The DNS situation is that Mailman is running on a webserver (www.foo.com) which has an MX list entry for foo.com at highest priority. All mailing lists are instructed to prefer "foo.com" as domain name instead of www.foo.com. This actually works just as expected so far - mails to foo_list(a)foo.com get through to the wrapper. I have two mailing lists with EXACTLY the same settings. The only difference is that they have different members. Both are unrestricted, in "Privacy Options" the option "Must posts be approved by an administrator?" is set to No, member_posting_only is off, "Addresses of members accepted for posting.." is empty. For list 1 all posts (whether from a member or no) are held for approval and I get a message on the admin e-mail. On list 2 all posts go through just fine. What am I doing wrong? I fail to see the error after several hours of trying various things. Even deleted one of the lists and recreated it just to see what would happen -- same situation. Thanks Ramon

Re: cgi-gid puzzler fixed

Thanks to LuKreme for showing me where I went wrong with the cgi-gid setting. Now I have another one that also has me stumped... I now have a list configured but I can't subscribe to it. I get the supscription page fine and submit the request. Mailman then sends the confirmation e-mail ok which I then replies to. Mailman appears to accept this but just sends it right back. Any mail sent to the list just bounces right back to the sender which so far is just me. No users show up in the user list. check_perms reports no problems. The error logs don't seem to show anything wrong. Crontabs seem OK. I'm stumped! Any ideas? TIA -Rob-

digest sent to entire list, why?

Hi, I'm running 2.0.11 One of my new lists sent the first digest to the list posting address today from listname-admin(a)hostname.tld 'on behalf of' listname-request(a)hostname.tld to listname(a)hostname.tld Coincidentally(?) the time stamp matched that of a post I had approved and which was sent at the same time as the digest. It was a simple plain text post I'd approved (mime is disabled for the list in question.) My impression had been, from the digest settings I'd chosen in the admin webgui, that the digest would only be sent to list members who had opted to receive the digest instead of separate posts. I'm baffled by the digest having been mailed to the list posting address and therefore all members of the list. (and a thought which just came to mind, will the digest be included in the next digest since it went to the list address? ug.) I've searched the admin webgui settings and found nothing, I've read the readmes and found nothing, I searched http://www.python.org/cgi-bin/faqw-mm.py with all the strings and search types I could think of and came up with nothing. I browsed through the TOC there and found nothing. What am I overlooking? How do I prevent the digest from being sent to the entire list via the list's posting address? I had 7 unsubs within 10 minutes of that going out, so I'd like to prevent a repeat. tia, ~steven

Limit by domain in mailman-2.1b2

Is it possible to limit by domain name in the sender filters for mailman-2.1b2? If so, con someone send me a pointer to a crash course in the syntax for it? I don't know Python but from what I can tell, its regular expressions look something like Perl's. Thanks. -Myron

Problem: All recipients refused

Hello everyone, I've just installed Mailman. I followed the INSTALL file and had no problem (including permissions). The problem that I find now is that somehow mailman can't send a single mail through Sendmail. I can see in the logs the following: Jun 04 20:13:00 2002 (22207) All recipients refused: (111, 'Connection refused') Jun 04 20:13:00 2002 (22207) post to test from mailman-owner(a)net70sistemas.com, size=1340, 1 failures Jun 04 20:13:00 2002 (22207) post to test from test-admin(a)net70sistemas.com, size=349, 1 failures When I try to send a messege to the newly created test list, I receive a message to postmaster that says the following: Failure to exec script. WANTED gid 12, GOT gid 47. (Reconfigure to take 47?) 554 5.3.0 "|/usr/local/mailman-2.0.11/mail/wrapper post test"... unknown mailer error 2 I have considered the fact that I could have not configured well Mailman at the beginning, but I found that gid 47 goes for mailnull group! Anyway, my mailer (Sendmail) uses the typical "mail" user and group being gid 12. So I guess that somehow I may have missed something to make mailman send mail through my mailer. Can anyone help, please? changing the location of mailman

I would like to change the directory that mailman is in, but when doing a newlist, the echo comes up with /var/mailman/mail/wrapper Where would I change this? I found a spot in Default.py but not sure if this is the only spot that needs to be changed. Ed Rantanen
